Some Twitter Friends Are National Treasures

I have met some incredible giving friends on Twitter, one of those great guys is @DubMentality
who runs the Dub Mentality blog. Give it a read or a blogroll add if you haven't yet. Lot's of interesting content on there.

Anyways, I was tagged in a post early last week that instructed for me to contact @NickLcitycards
with my address so I can get the card he had just picked up for me from Nick's sale. I was thrown back because of his generosity and also because of the pretty sweet card he had picked up for me.

A 2016 Panini National Treasures dual memorabilia card of future Pro Bowlers Sterling Shepard and Paul Perkins.

And as an added surprise, Nick had tossed in this pretty slick Donruss Optic Rated Rookie parallels.

A big thanks goes out to Dub for picking up the sweet dual memorabilia card for me and another thanks to Nick for tossing in the extras. You can check them both out on Twitter and give em a follow click!

Another Griffey Jr Centerpiece

It's been a few months, but @Jake1725 and I just pulled off another big trade. This time the centerpiece was worked around a card we almost pulled off the last time which was delayed from someone else wanting to trade for it. Well, they never pulled off the deal so their loss is my gain. Stay tuned at the bottom for that beauty.

If you don't know @Jake1725 he runs the A Very Simple Idea blog which focuses on his main project of collecting the Topps/Bowman Inception autograph sets. Go check him out if you haven't done so yet.

Our trade focused around helping him acquire more cards for his project and for me, adding more cards to my PC.

Up first, here are some freebies he tossed into the trade. Oversized Donruss '84 baseball cards.

Including a new Pops I didn't have. He looks pretty good in pinstripes. I always wished Jr had gone that route to. Would have gotten him a ring he so deserved.

Cool oversized Finest cards I haven't seen before. One of Gwynn and one of Larry Walker.

Speaking of oversized cards that are cool, here is one of Jr I didn't have. I always liked the photo on this one.

A Ginter Fielder relic. I dig these mini relics.

Luis Ortiz auto rookie

Christian Vazquez auto. I have found this one a new home already in a big trade I am still working on.

I have always seen Post Cereal cards, but not ones that are unfolded and look like this. Awesome. Also a new Jr.

Don't Judge me for wanting some Judge. This is a foil parallel. I am sure this card like all of his others is on fire.

And we have finally reached our destination, the centerpiece of this trade. There's not much to say other than just drooling over it. Also check out the numbering. Seems like someone wore 24 once...

This makes Griffey auto card number three in my PC. I know that's not much compared to some, but it's all I can do for now.

A big thanks goes out to @Jake1725 for the trade and for considering me next in line for the Griffey auto. I am so thankful that we were able to work out a trade in the best of both of our interests. This card has found it's final home and I look forward to our next trade.

If you are not following him or have not checked him out yet for helping him with his project, please do so. He is overall a really good guy as well.

BASEically Awesome Part 10:1995 Pinnacle Football

By now you must be thinking....really....he did three of these posts in a row??!!

Yup. I am just trying to clean out my draft space as I have decided to no longer pursue segments on here. I would rather to free blog so you will be seeing lots of recurring segments over the next few weeks.

1995 had a ton of great base card set releases especially capturing the gridiron.

1995 Pinnacle not only had a solid base set design with the foil football at the bottom encasing the  name and position, but the photography throughout the 250 card set was amazing. You would have thought Upper Deck did it.

Great pic of Davis making a catch here

Kramer found on the ground. Something he did a lot of

Norton getting the recovery

Carter outrunning the defense

And this is only a sampling. I really want to chase down this set someday. It's on my bucket list but for now I am just focusing on my Ex and Spx projects.

So what do you guys think of this design and photography? Let me know in comments!!

PWE's Can Pack A Punch

One thing about blind trading as they call it, you just never know what you will be getting in return. I find that form of trading a lot of fun as you will be getting a package or PWE in return full of mystery items.

This has been the form of trading for the most part between Baseball Card Breakdown and myself and it has worked. I am always amazed by what he sends in return.

Here is a great start. A shiny D.B. Sweeney who I just saw in an episode of House that my wife and I have been binge-watching. A Yankees prospect card and a shiny Cruz.

Up next is a Gridiron Kings Studio Series parallel of the great LT. This card has a canvas feel. Pretty cool.

I have seen this card on eBay for awhile but never had the chance to pull the trigger....well...don't have to now. It's a 2003-2004 Laser Line 23K Gold Card. So basically, it's a unique rookie card.

A numbered insert from Leaf Rookies and Stars. Remember when inserts were numbered, held value and meant something. Yeah, me to.

DJ Hall auto card. I think this is only my second autograph of his.

And to finish off this mail day, a pretty sweet Letterman auto of Giants backup QB Josh Johnson. I totally fell in love with the card as soon as I saw it. I didn't own a single card from Topps Letterman or an auto of Josh so this fits perfectly. I also may need the letter for my ongoing header search.

A big thanks goes out to Gavin for this amazing mail day. I have already begun to put another together to get out to you hopefully soon!

Thoughts are welcomed in comments!

BASEically Awesome Part 8:2009 Upper Deck Football

If you are a collector, well, you simply know you can't use the words Upper Deck without associating the words photography. They have always been the best at capturing moments on the field. Whether it's baseball, football or on the court with basketball and even on the ice with hockey. Their photo's are the best.

One of my favorites comes from their last NFL product possibly ever. 2009 Upper Deck.

I have only chosen a few of the images from the set. But, I think it sets a great example of how simplicity of the design combined with the colorful pictures makes for cardboard bliss.

Kurt looks well protected in the pocket

Royal cutting up the field

Mendenhall looks untouched!

This Haynesworth photo is taken at a pretty cool angle as he prepares to take the field and the Redskins overpaid money.

Which set had your favorite Upper Deck pictures and what are your thoughts on these? Comments welcomed!

Some Firsts

I have mentioned this guys name many times on here, but, my buddy @JGfan24ever and I pulled off another trade after he posted some NY Giants cards I was very interested in.

Up first, some new Eli's. You can't tell from this picture, but one is a parallel.

A couple Odell's. The Upper Deck I didn't have.

My first Evan Engrams. I really like the Peak Performance insert with its shiny reflection. SAGE is really upping their game this year. I saw the other day they are going to have material cards again.

This combines both Flair, a classic parallel from it and a Giant. Can't go wrong.

Speaking of SAGE above, Jadar Johnson marks my first autograph from the product. He was an unsigned rookie Free Agent the Giants quickly scooped up. They could really use a safety to pair with Landon Collins. Hopefully this guy can step up to provide the help they need.

Tavarres King showed late last season that they didn't need to pick up any WR's in the draft this year. He made some big plays including that lackluster performance from the Giants in the playoffs vs the Packers. I hope to see him make the roster again. I do bet if he doesn't, someone will quickly grab him.

Amani! A nice /25 memorabilia card of him. One of a few that I have.

And when he posted this, I knew I had to find a way to pull off this trade. It's my first triple memorabilia Giants card. The players featured, Eli, Shockey and Plax.

And to finish this out, my first Brandin Cooks autograph card. I really wanted this card but it took me a bit of thinking whether I could give up the right card in return. But, I did. Even though I hate the Patriots, this guy is going to be big for them and I wanted to scoop up a card now before he is. I also am a huge fan of Black Gold as I have stated multiple times in the past.

A really solid mail day top to bottom from @JGfan24ever. Thanks again for the trade buddy and I look forward to our next one.

BASEically Awesome Part 7:1995 Fleer Football

I know, I know. I can feel your glares right now. How in the world could I consider Fleer 1995 to be BASEically Awesome?? I have seen the comments on the design from many who consider it to be done by a child, but, having been a bit younger when I purchased a ton of the product, it caught my eye and still does til today.

The set breaks down into 6 psychedelic twist designs that can be a bit trippy on the eyes. Each team has been assigned a design so not every team will be done in each in the 400 card set.

One design in the base set is blurry.

The next is straight up team color.

This one is part full color, then takes the front of the player and gives it a computer breakdown look.

then we get a bit trippy

We make sure to know the team name

Then we blur it out but re-position everything a bit.

I think a lot of my love for the product comes from reminiscence about opening it and the memories attached to it. I think maybe if that part wasn't involved I may not care for it as much. But maybe.

So what do you think? You yay or nay on the set? Is there one design to you that stands out over others? Let me know in comments!

Helping Another Collectors Set Needs

When I saw I Feel Like A Collector Again blog post some set needs for 2017 Gypsy Queen baseball, I immediately jumped on the challenge of trying to find him some help for it. I really liked this years design, but decided I wouldn't chase a set myself. I would like the Judge and Griffey Jr base from it however.

I was quite shocked that I had 120 cards he needed for his set, so I approached him about a trade which he happily accepted. In return, I got a nice mix of Gmen for the PC. None of which I had.

The first card I got is pretty cool and surprisingly something I hadn't seen before, a Sean Landeta Ditka's Picks playing card. I love adding oddities like this.

Up next, Jennings prizm parallel from Select and a new Eli Apple from Unparalleled. I expect big things from him next season.

A new shiny Odell.

And my very first Jesse Palmer autograph. I have a few memorabilia cards, but no auto. So a nice PC add.

and finally a card I have been eyeballing for some time since he rack pack pulled it and was hoping to get, a 2016 Prizm red/white/blue auto of Adams. A super shiny add!

A big thanks goes out to I Feel Like A Collector Again for the awesome trade. If I come across anymore needs for Gypsy Queen I will make sure to contact you.
If you guys haven't added him to your blogrolls yet or checked out his blog, just go HERE and add it. Above in my first paragraph, I also included the link to his 2017 Gypsy Queen needs so if you can help, just contact him!Up to this point, I was the lone one to do so. He has many more needs!
