Eli's Picks: 2004 Topps Total Rookie Card

Eli's Picks is a segment where Eli himself, well a stuffed Bleacher Creature version, picks his favorite base/insert cards to show off.
Eli decided today it was time to take a trip back in time to his rookie season. A season where it started as turmoil at the draft with the San Diego Charger dissing and one where he started out on the bench behind the great Kurt Warner, before getting his chance when the Giants season started crumbling. It wasn't the best of seasons for Eli who threw for just a little over 1,000 yards and had 6 TD's and 9 Ints, but it was a building point where the following season he would lead them to the playoffs.

I picked up this Topps Total card pretty cheap, I think like $5. Anytime you can pick up a future Hall Of Famer rookie card for that cheap you gotta jump on it. I actually have two of these now after a trade with 90's Niche Football Card Blog and don't plan on moving either anytime soon.

Mail Day Saturday:Trade With 90's Niche Football Card Blog Part 1

I know I am supposed to show off new Giants finds over at Snagging Cardboard, if you haven't checked that blog out yet please do, but I already had these uploaded to here along with some other Giants pickups so I will finish posting those on here instead of re-uploading.

I recently made another big trade with 90's Niche Blog and brought home some tremendous goodies. There were so many to show off, I am breaking it down into an entire week plus.

There will be three parts like today's, except Part 3 will be one cool card. Next week, will be known as Psych Week showing off all of my new Psych autograph adds from this trade leading up to an epic reveal on Friday.

For now, let's just show off today's mail.

Some goodies in this first round. Numbered Playoff ticket parallel of Odell in this mix

Landon Collins rookie and Paul Perkins rookie Prizm. Prizm really do look sharp.

See-thru Eli and die cut Shepard from Absolute

This was the one baseball card of the mix and it's a beauty as I love these parallels. I wished Topps would go back to these.

Now rolling out some hits. New Ryan Nassib pickups. I wished he could have panned out with the Giants, but, just didn't have the potential most thought were with him.

Paul Perkins relic adds. Pretty slick Prizm parallel relic.

A new Andre Williams auto from Leaf. It doesn't look like it, but this is a mini

Some autos that I already had, but honestly, I will take any Giants relics and autographs whether I have them already or not. Bring em on!
A really good showcase to start here. But, there is much more to come including the epic Psych week!

NYG PC Spotlight 12: 2016 Panini Infinity No Limits Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham Jr
Insert Card #d 77/188
Card # NL-8

Collectin' Jeets:1999 Topps Chrome Early Road To The Hall

There was nothing more exciting in the 90's than when you landed one of your PC players in insert form in a pack.
That's exactly how I landed today's Collectin' Jeets card. I pulled it from a box of 1999 Topps Chrome Series 1 that also included a Griffey Jr Lords Of The Diamond refractor.
This Jeter is not the toughest of pulls, but 1:12 meant more back then. I mean only two of these per box so you could pull other players but I was lucky enough to land him.
The refractor versions of these are nuts. They are 1:944 packs and are only limited to 100 each. I don't expect to ever add that to my Jeter PC. But, I am happy with this version. Pretty nice design as well.

Thoughts on today's Jeter card are welcomed in comments.

Big Blue Collections Part 2: Let's Go NY!

Big Blue Collections is my latest segment here on Snagging Cardboard that showcases non-card items in my NY Giants collection.

There is nothing that brightens up my man cave more than the gift I got a few years ago from my wife, she found it on a discount shelf at the local hardware store and knew I would be all over it.

And I was.

When it's game day or game night, with a flip of the switch this lights up the room one word at a time....

I tried to take a pic with one at a time but could only capture the last one lit up. They moved a little faster than my camera could catch. But, I think you get the point at what it does.

At the end of the rotation, they all light up.
Having this piece helps lighten up any game mood no matter the actual outcome. Well, maybe.

For the second time in a year during my sorting project, I stumbled upon a couple Ken Griffey Jr's I must had put in a wrong pile and got lost in my boxes by-brand for a few years.

Well, no more!

I have finally pulled them out and they will go to their rightful home in the Griffey binder.

Up first is one from The National. Design is okay. I like it cause it's the closest to The National I will ever get.
Up next, one from the Fan Fest in St. Louis. I like the design on this one with the arches showing and overall color appeal.

I hope to discover more Griffey's I forgot along my journey. I will have some updates soon on my overall sorting project as well.

Thoughts on today's finds are welcomed in comments.

Can You Have Too Many Of One Card?

When I was recently sorting my Giants cards by player, something I have been meaning to do for years, I noticed that I had acquired quite a few, 5 to be exact, 2011 Panini Certified Jerrel Jernigan rookie autographed jersey cards. A couple I got through trades, the others I got for dirt cheap.
That begged the question in my mind, is this too many? Should I have only gotten one? Or is having 5 of the same card kinda cool?

Here is the way I look at it, they are Giants cards, they are cheap and to be honest, kinda cool. I would actually like to add to it and see how many I can get out of the 499 made. If I do add more, I will post about it!

Your opinion may differ or you may agree with me. So let me know in comments!

BASEically Awesome Part 3:1997 Fleer Ultra Baseball

Another edition of BASEically Awesome is here and with the MLB season underway, let's take a look at some baseball.

1997 Fleer Ultra not only had a solid design, but it had some very unique and fun photos to create a base card masterpiece.

We take a look at some swings and after swings here,

Dante is trying to get in the pitchers head while Todd is just chilling out.

Johnny is getting his swings in and Ozzie is making a play

I don't know what it is about this card, but I see this one as the iconic card of '97 Ultra. I just feel like I have seen this one be posted many times in Beckett and online.

And we end this gallery with Jose looking for fun.

With a product with 550+ base cards to collect, it would be a worthy set chase especially with the photography done like this. However, the Ortiz rookie base card need wouldn't be cheap, but would add value to the set.

Thoughts on today's BASEically Awesome round are welcomed in comments. I know there were many fans of this product.

Mail Day Saturday:Legendary TTM Success!

Every day I wait for the latest post from Autograph Blog to see his success with TTM autographs. I mainly wait for ones that catch my eye, especially ones from celebs and legendary ones at that.

A few months ago, he put up an address for the great Bob Newhart. If his name doesn't ring a bell, you must not watch TV as he has spent a lifetime on screen. Just look him up on Wikipedia, HERE.

He most recently guest starred on The Big Bang Theory, one of my favorite shows on TV and was someone I grew up watching alongside my grandmother who passed away almost 15 years ago. So adding his autograph to my collection would mean a lot to me.

After waiting roughly 7 weeks, this arrived to me on Thursday....
So cool!

It's not an autograph photo, but it's his autograph well signed. It's also another use for those filler cards.

A big thanks goes out to Bob if he ever comes upon this post. I hope he realizes how much it means to get this back. Definitely something I will treasure forever.

Giants In The Mail:Mystery And Suspense!

Last Sunday, I showcased my trade mail day from Dub Mentality Blog, but what I didn't tell you was the backstory behind it. A story of mystery and suspense which led to today's Giants In The Mail.

It was a dark clear night. The moon was full and the stars twinkled brightly. The USPS driver had just picked up my trade package from the post office near Dub Mentality and it was in transport to the next post office destination.

A few miles down the road the driver noticed a bright light in the sky and pulled over to see what it was. Was it a shooting star? Was a planet being pulled into orbit? Or was it more.....Maybe.

The driver got out of his car to see if he could get a better look when the light got so bright it blinded him and he fell to his knees. Within seconds it was over and he could see again. The bright light in the sky was gone and he found himself back in his vehicle. It took him a second to calm down from fright, but he continued on his way shortly afterwards just wanting to leave that area before anything else weird happened.

When he arrived to the next post office, he told the receiving worker what had happened and upon getting ready to unload the mail bags and totes from the back of his vehicle, they were missing.....

When available, I like to track my packages online to monitor when it should arrive. I like to make sure to grab my packages from my mail box immediately because the person who drops them off will sometimes leave them outside my mail box in all kinds of weather. You know, snow, rain, strong winds. My packages have already seen it all even after I complained.

So I kept track of my package for a few days and noticed it wasn't moving. I thought maybe it was delayed because of weather issues the area had experienced but gave Dub Mentality a heads up just in case.

We gave it a few more days. No updates.

It was pushing Day 5 without any updates and Dub checked in with me to see if it had arrived. I told him it hadn't and so he offered to send me another card even though it wasn't his fault at all. It was once again in the hands of the USPS system which none of us could control.

I told him many times he really didn't have to but he said he wanted to so he sent me a pic of this card he was mailing. Pretty sweet. Nice patch and I have always been a fan of Certified.
So he packaged this one up hoping that it would arrive since neither of us was sure the other would.

Day 7 still had no tracking update for the package. It was becoming evident that something had happened to it. But, what?

Gork Mailderson the leader of the Aknoids, searched the USPS packages he had beemed up to the mother-ship thoroughly looking for his lost package intending to go to another space buddy as they knew how the postal system worked even in space. He had gotten word that his package got to earth somehow.
But, frustratingly enough, it wasn't in this round he had taken. So he would have to snag another.
Just like with all of the other packages he had snagged in the past, he knew the mail had to go back to earth before someone tried to figure out where it disappeared to. He knew it take a week before someone would finally check into it.
In a quick beam of light, he made sure that every package individually got to their closest destination so they would be delivered the next day. Or at least he had hoped.....

The next day, just like the previous 7 days, I updated my tracking again. Boom! Finally it was updated but the package had arrived at another USPS facility in my state. Not one that my mail normally goes through. But, I didn't care. I knew it would finally be coming to me and that it was hopefully safe.

You all know how the story goes after that as the package arrived safely and I posted it HERE, last Sunday.

The Sterling Shepard I posted above, was not beemed into space and arrived in just a few days like the first one should have. A big thanks goes out to @DubMentality for his generosity in sending it my way even though it was not his fault that my package went missing for a week.
I am just glad that Gork was nice enough to ship it back to earth. A thanks is due to him as well.
