REVIEW:2016 Panini Prime Cuts Baseball

After seeing the Panini preview gallery for this product and being one that hadn't ever opened it, my hands were shaking as I opened the box full of card wishes that I could hopefully find inside.

Sadly, those card wishes fastly diminished as I looked at card after card not seeing what I thought I could find.

What are my thoughts on the product, well, READ ON!

In every hobby box of 2016 Panini Prime Cuts baseball is 1 pack. That one pack is made up of 5 cards that are all hits. Boxes run $230.

There are no plain base to find in this product as it is packed full of hits that are considered the base. So it's a very large one including 3 on-card autograph subsets, 5 material card subsets and 4 other autographed card subsets.
I will first show you my pulls then summarize the overall finds in the product.

My first card was this Carlos Gonzalez. The product had a strong Donruss Classics feel throughout. A higher-end version of that classic hit.

My second card, Yadier Molina Timelines.

My third hit, Icons of Eddie Mathews.

My next find, a rookie autograph of Dae-Ho Lee. I really like his signature.

And finally my last pull, a Biography auto memorabilia card of David Price.

2016 Prime Cuts Baseball offers a diverse checklist featuring the greatest legends, top stars and rookies.
PRIME CUTS ROOKIE AUTOGRAPHS I, PRIME SIGNATURES BRONZE that offers a mix of current and retired superstars paired with an on-card autograph, PRIME CUTS ROOKIE AUTOGRAPHS III HOLO GOLD that have a triple swatch on-card autographs of 2016 rookies, BASE II HOLO RED, ICONS JERSEYS that have 5 different versions such as Jerseys, Bats, Numbers Combos, Numbers Trios and Numbers Quads. BASE VII AUTOGRAPHS HOLO PLATINUM, BIOGRAPHY BLUE that highlights a moment from each player's career paired with a swatch, ROOKIE AUTOGRAPHS JUMBO MATERIALS BOOKLETS HOLO PLATINUM pairs 2016 rookies with an autograph and jumbo swatch. You can find prime swatches too! TIMELINE TRIOS GREEN that have 5 different versions such as Timeline, Combos, Trios, Quads and Stats.

Overall, this product is loaded, my box just simply wasn't. With the cost of the box vs what I got in return, it's definitely not hard to see I was at a loss here. The cards look great as usual with Panini baseball products but the usual value that comes in their baseball products was simply lacking here.

I have seen some good boxes, some amazing boxes and some meh boxes. There is a lot of greats to find in these boxes with names of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Roberto Clemente and Ty Cobb included but you simply can't expect those in every box. Once again, anything high end is a gamble. If you like to gamble, I guess say roll the dice. If you don't, buy into a box break cause it's all hits.

STAY TUNED FOR A FUTURE CONTEST to win this and possibly others!!

By the way, make sure you thank Panini America for this review box and for the future giveaway. Check out their site for products like this one and others. Also give an extra thanks to Tracy Hackler and give him a Twitter follow too!

Breakin Wax:1996 Playoff Absolute Football Pack Break

1996 Playoff Absolute was always a fun bust. The pack within a pack concept was new one and one that intrigued me for some time. I would have liked to had seen the inserts put in the packs that way randomly instead of having an extra pack inside of every pack. The mystery would have been fun if you found one of those within.

Anyways, let's bust this!

In every pack of 1996 Playoff Absolute Football, you will find yourself immersed in 6 cards and you will find that inner pack as well that has one tougher-to-pull base. Packs run on Jammin JD Sport Card website for $3.95. You can find it HERE.

The 90's provided us with so many great base card designs and you wonder why many of us set collectors have disappeared today as base card designs have diminished. At least in my opinion.

We don't have cool looking base cards like this. Stadium back drop. Brilliant!

My inner pack came as a blue. Blue's are the tougher of the two base card levels. Whites are more common.

My card. Not great. If you can't tell the difference in the base card levels its all about the Absolute word. It's blue on this Holmes card as it's normally red on the base.

Not the best of breaks but I love this base card design and hope to build a set of the product with all three levels of base some day. My pack also means the cooler Absolute pulls are waiting to be had at Jammin JD Sports Cards unless I can beat you to them.

Breakin Wax:1996 Collectors Edge President's Reserve Series 1 Pack Break

It seemed only fitting that I post this pack break as my next retro bust from my Jammin JD Sports Cards retro crate with the presidential election just completed.

You won't find any Trump or Hillary in here, just fun clear acetate cards with the biggest names in the NFL.

In every pack of 1996 Collectors Edge Presidents Reserve, you will find yourself 6 acetate cards whether it's base or inserts. Packs on the Jammin JD Sports Cards website run $2.25 each (which is much less than they used to be in 1996) and you can find those HERE.

In order for me to show off their greatness, I put them on a green counter top to show you how the card lays out.

As you can see with the Willie Jackson here, the outside of the card is clear acetate with some gold trim. The inner part is a blue box with a featured player. All acetate.
Let's have some fun with these cards to since the product has the word President in it.

Willie wants to "Catch Your Vote" for his election slogan.

Jason Elam is "Kicking His Way In" as his slogan.

If you vote Jerome, he will offer "Free Bus Rides"

Terry wants to "Run For Your Vote".

Bruce Smith says "Vote For Me Or Else"
Overall, no insert finds but I had fun busting it and posting them. I didn't buy a lot of the product when it came out and it appears the cards I pulled in this break are all new so that's a plus.

Thoughts on today's break welcomed below!

Breakin Wax:1990 Panini Baseball Stickers

Well, I thought I would break the cheapest of my packs first and my only baseball one in my Jammin JD Sports Cards Retro buys.

My only reasoning for picking up this one, well, I wanted Griffey.

Each packet of 1990 Panini stickers baseball has 5 player stickers and 1 foil sticker. This pack costs .20 at Jammin JD Sports Cards.

Well, I didn't get my Griffey and in terms of players I know from this pack, Gary Gaetti and Dan Plesac is about it. I am sure the rest of you die hard baseball fans remember the other guys.

Here is that aforementioned Plesac with my foil sticker from the pack. Not a Cardinals fan, but still pretty cool.
Can't say you can argue with this pickup for the price on these. It was worth the risk with or without Griffey and it was a short trip down memory lane which is what matters most.

Thoughts on my first break?

My Jammin Crate Box!

Yesterday was my first mail day in a long time. One I was really counting down to.

I picked up some Retro Card packs from Jammin JD Sports Cards to bust and this arrived yesterday, pretty stylish I think.

And inside, after the protective bubble wrap, was awesomeness including a bonus pack!
I will be breaking these packs on the blog as I go, so make sure to tune in to see how I did.
There is a very solid variety in here from the years 1995-2000 and mainly football. Anything from Topps Gold Label to Playoff Illusions to Stadium Club. Simply a trip back in time and one I know I will enjoy.

SI For Kids Cards November 2016

Well, as you may or may not know, I subscribe to SI For Kids. Not so much for the articles even though they are fun sometimes, but for the cards. Yes, when you like cards as much as I do, you find many ways to collect. Oddballs that you find in SI For Kids can sometimes be quite valuable as well and I have a stack of at least the last 5 years of them including some hot Golf rookies.

So I thought as a new segment, one of many to come among changes, I would showcase my cards for the month and make a note about any that stand out.

November's is pretty stacked I think. You have Gary Sanchez rookie, possibly the last Larry Fitzgerald SI For Kids card with his retirement soon and the possible Heisman and future Cleveland Brown, Lamar Jackson who has been a nightmare for any defense this season.

If you haven't ever thought about buying an issue before for the cards, I think this month would be a great start.
