Boog Yeah!

Not sure where my mother-in-law got these, but she handed them to me awhile back and said "not sure if there is anything here but here you go"

I never argue with getting cards of any type so I told her, "thank you they are great." Knowing at first glance that there wasn't much here, but cards are cards to me.

Up first, some Fleer basketball cards. Not the best players or the worst. They were in decent shape at least.

And the final card was my favorite card from the group was this 1991 Sportflics Kellogs Boog Powell.

First off, 90's card. Second, not something I have or have seen. Third, I like me some Sportflics!

I did some research on these and found out it's a 15 card set with a pretty solid checklist with players like Yogi Berra and Hank Aaron. The cards are not worth much individually, but as a group come together as a solid $20 or so set.

It's exciting to know even though my card funds are way down this year, that I have been able to enjoy the hobby with new pickups still thanks to her. I never know where or when she will find me some new stuff, but I know she always has her eyes out for me.

Thoughts on today's cards are always welcomed!

TTM: Tim Allen Did Me Right!

If you read the blog last week, you would have known I sent out an TTM request to Tim Allen.

Well, he responded with a photo and a printed signature. I was happy just for the response, but still wanted more from one of my favorites. So I sent a few physical items that were more personal to a better address hoping for better results.

Well, looks like he did me right this time...

I just wished I could had lightened the color on the photocopies I had sent but this time he "on-card signed" them. That's right, Tim Allen, the legend, physically touched these and signed them. Well, saying it that way makes me sound creepy lol.

A big thanks goes out to Tim for taking a second out to sign these for me. They will be framed and added to the man cave wall as pieces of remembrance from my childhood.

Have you guys ever sent a request to Tim? Have you ever re-sent in a request to actually get something signed after your first attempt was a fail? How did that go?

The 90's Collection:1995 Fleer Ultra On-Base Leader Paul O'Neill

Think my eyes are seeing things! Are there many Paul O'Neills running at me????

No. It's just Paul getting on base time and time again.

Back to when the Yankees actually could hit and were a good team, Paul O'Neill was one of their consistent guys both at the plate and in the outfield. After he arrived to the Yankees in 1993, all the guy did was hit increasing yearly with hits and hitting a consistent 20 homers a year.

These inserts were for those guys that seemed to be on-base a lot and the designed showed it. They fell at a rate of 1:8 Jumbo packs with a much tougher Gold Medallion parallel of it falling at 1:80 packs.
So what do you guys think of today's card design? Cool? Lame?

Forgotten Hobby

I have discussed this many times, but where I live the hobby doesn't exist.

There are no card shows. There are no LCS'. There are simply no collectors.

You can go to yard sales and either find cards priced for too much because former collectors hadn't collected in years and didn't realize how much value their cards dropped or cards you could get for basically free. Like this one..

My sister-in-law had gone to a yard sale this summer and picked up this card along with some other items and went to pay. When she handed in this 1983 Drakes Cake card of Reggie Jackson the lady just brushed  it off to the side and added it to my sister-in-law's pile for nothing. Yes, nothing.

Now, I know you can come across these cards on eBay for like $1, but still, in today's world, $1 is a $1.

This just continues to show me how much the hobby world in my area is continuing it's disappearance. Cards have become so irrelevant that even when I hand out freebies at my yard sales to kids (I try my best to get kids interested) you get looks from the parents like "you collect sports cards?" Had I handed the kids a free video game, they probably wouldn't have even took a second glance. I have also had other parents tell me no as they don't want the "clutter".

This is something 20 years ago wouldn't have been looked at this way. We had monthly card shows, 2 LCS' within reach and the hobby was booming with kids buying and trading. Pretty much every grocery store, gas station, pharmacy and even craft shops had some form of hobby relation. It was amazing.

Now I can only purchase cards at a Walmart an hour away or online. That's it. Completely a hobby ghost town/state.

It's a tough hobby world I live in physically. But, luckily, I have this online portion to feed off from. I have you guys the readers, I have Twitter and Facebook and I have other sites/promotions I visit and participate with. It keeps me excited and involved in the hobby. If I hadn't discovered the online world of collecting, who knows what would have happened.

How many of you experience this? I am sure I am not alone. How do you find ways to keep yourself involved in the hobby and excited to continue on collecting?

REVIEW:2016 Topps Chrome Baseball (GIVEAWAY)

Since 1996, Topps Chrome has been a staple in the hobby and especially in my household. It's quite possibly my favorite product out on the market overall.

It is a sad year however without a football version, but I still at least get my taste of Chrome and keep my streak up of at least busting one sport or the other since 1996.

Let's see how this years stacks up against the rest.

In every box of 2016 Topps Chrome baseball is 24 packs with 4 cards per pack. You will find a ton of parallels and 2 autographs per box. Boxes run at a reasonable $65.
The base set design matches the same one you find in the flagship. The only difference is the back of the card numbering and the cut down to just 200 players. Other than that, a good design to begin with and you stick some chrome on it and it looks even better.

The base set also features photo variations that fall 1:423 packs with a limited amount of players. So not an easy pull.

Now time for the parallels.
Refractors!! There is a ton to find from this variety:
  • Refractor
  • Prism Refractor
  • Purple Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Blue Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Green Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Gold Refractor: sequentially numbered to 50.
  • Orange Refractor: sequentially numbered to 25. HOBBY ONLY
  • Red Refractor: sequentially numbered to 5.
  • SuperFractor: numbered 1/1
  • Printing Plates: numbered 1/1
Here are my refractor card parallels. I must also note the word "refractor" has made its presence on the back of the cards again.

Prism refractors. These look great but are unnumbered.

David Wright is a purple numbered /275 and Syndergaard is a blue numbered /150
Now onto the inserts. These bad boys looked great in flagship, but the power of these has been taken to the max! The chrome finish and rainbow refractor overly improved all inserts into ones some may collect sets of.
The next couple of inserts have parallels of Green #/99, Orange #/25, Red #/5, and SuperFractor 1/1.
Okay, just going to say it, these Future Star cards look amazing. The stained glass approach with a slap of chrome and refractor gives your eyes some candy for sure. Of course the First Pitch card I pulled of a Nina Agdal does that too ;)

Youth Impact is another eye stunner. This years Chrome inserts have really taken a great turn
Other inserts I didn't pull were ROY Chronicles Set Checklist that has 15 cards to collect with 1 card falling per case. Good luck putting this set together!
I should also mention before moving on.....2016 TOPPS CHROME BASEBALL will also have exclusive HOT BOXES that will replace base cards with all BLACK REFRACTOR PARALLELS!
Yeah, pretty sweet. I would love to bust a box with those in it.
Now onto the hits!

My two autographs were not the best, but I have never pulled the in-terms of hits in Chrome. To me, that's not what Chrome is about anyways.

The rookie autos are on-card though which makes plenty of collectors happy.

This is an orange parallel /25

Rookie autos have the following refractor parallels
  • Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Purple Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Blue Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Gold Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Orange Refractor: sequentially numbered to 25.
  • Red Refractor: sequentially numbered to 5.
  • SuperFractor: numbered 1/1.
  • Printing Plates: numbered 1/1.
Other fun autograph finds not in my box include, MLB DEBUT AUTOGRAPHS, YOUTH IMPACT AUTOGRAPHS, R.O.Y. CHRONICLES AUTOGRAPHS, TEAM LOGO AUTOGRAPHS (includes the Team Pin like in the flagship) and CARLOS CORREA ROOKIE AUTOGRAPH CARDS (The 2015 Topps Chrome Rookie Autograph cards of Carlos Correa were not available in time for last year's release so find them in 2016)

Overall, I am just as in love with chrome as I have always been. I feel every box comes packing with value with parallels and autographs and the retail versions are the best retail buys you can get. Others of you may have an opposite feel, but this is just my opinion and I am sticking to it!

Now time for the giveaway.
This time a prize pack of inserts/parallels are up for grabs.

ALSO, LET ME KNOW ONE OF THE PARALLELS OR INSERTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO FIND IN YOUR WINNINGS AND IT MAY BE IN THERE :)

TTM Score!! The One And Only, Betty White!

A few months ago, I saw that Gavin over at Baseball Card Breakdown had scored an autograph I thought was really cool. It was from legendary, yes I will use that word here, actress Betty White.

If you don't know who she is, you must have been in hiding over the past 60 plus years as she has been and still is an actress, animal rights activist, author, comedian, radio host, singer, and television personality. You must have seen her somewhere.

Anyways, I grew up watching the Golden Girls with my grandmother and saw her on many other movies and TV Shows and thought hey, that would be one great autograph to have.

Well, I sent in a request with a handwritten note and white filler card (that's all I have to offer) and less than two weeks to my surprise, I got this bad boy back....
Betty signed it to me from herself and added her dog's name. This doesn't get any better in my eyes to have an inscription from a great.

A big thanks goes out to Betty for taking a second out to do this for me. I can only imagine the amount of mail she receives and how busy she is even at her young age of 94.

Thoughts on my epic TTM and have you tried any legendary actors or actresses like Betty and who and how was your success?

1/1 With Some Yanks:Grady M Mail Day Part 10

This round of mail day from Grady was not only epically awesome, but it was a bit outside the usual.

Usually, the mail day is about a third of the size and comes with lots of inserts. However, this one was much different as there were hits to be found as well.

Here is a Cano relic

A Phil Hughes relic. Too bad he never panned out in pinstripes (or in general really)

A really nice Moose relic with a pinstripe

A Didi bat relic, my first relic of his

Also my first relic of Brian McCann. Once again, another nice bat relic

And to my biggest surprise, an End Zone parallel that are 1/1's. This was really exciting to me. As I mentioned a few posts back, I had thought about doing Score rainbows. Starting to think this is where I should start with already having the 1/1 in hand.

I still think the best Score ever released was this year.

A HUMONGOUS thanks goes out to Grady for this amazing mail day. Words cannot express my appreciation for such a mail day and I hope what I send in return to you will be just as gratifying to you as this was to me.

Thanks again.

Thoughts on this huge mail day is always welcomed!

REVIEW:2016 Donruss Football (/10 Giveaway!)

There was just something about the Panini Knights Lance preview for Donruss that caught my attention other than nostalgic part. I didn't know what it was til I opened it. It's a hidden gem. Meaning, there is something fun waiting for you in every pack just like with the baseball version.

How much fun did I have, well, you know what to do, READ ON!

In every box of 2016 Donruss football is 24 packs of 10 cards each. Good amount of cards. You also get One Autograph, One Memorabilia Cards, and 24 Rookies for about $60 a box. There are 2 inserts and one rookie card per pack.

Every box also contains the following:
  • 6 PARALLELS
  • 43 INSERTS:
  • 2 THE ROOKIES
  • 2 DOMINATORS
  • 1 THE ELITE SERIES
  • 1 THE ELITE SERIES ROOKIES
  • 3 GRIDIRON KINGS
  • 3 ALL-TIME GRIDIRON KINGS
  • 1 FANS OF THE GAME
  • 4 PEYTON MANNING TRIBUTE
  • 2 PEYTON MANNING TOP TARGETS
  • 3 LEGENDS OF THE FALL
  • 1 ENSHRINED,
  • 3 PRODUCTION LINE YARDAGE
  • 3 PRODUCTION LINE TOUCHDOWNS
  • 2 PRODUCTION LINE HITS
  • 3 LEAGUE LEADERS
  • 3 ALL-PROS
  • 3 1987 CLASSICS
  • 3 OTHER INSERTS
The base card design I really dig. I am not normally one for the borders, but these are really snazzy. Team color themed and the white cursive names stand out. The base set has 400 cards, all sorted by team, and has 100 rookies within those 400 including the popular Rated Rookie.

Players for new teams, including this awfully dreadful Rueben Randle team switch are include as well.

Players of yesterday are featured too!

Rookies. If Eli Apple stays healthy, watch out! It seems the bigger named rookie are apart of the Rated Rookies set that takes up cards 351-400.

Parallels galore!
Aqueous Test, Press Proofs Blue, Press Proofs Green, Press Proofs Red, Press Proofs Silver #100, Press Proofs Silver Die-Cut #75, Press Proofs Gold #50, Press Proofs Gold Die-Cuts #25, Press Proofs Black /10, and Press Proofs Black Die-Cuts 1/1

Then there is also,
SEASON STAT LINE PARALLEL CARDS: Base /398 , Rookies /389, and Rated Rookies /395.
YEARS STAT LINE PARALLEL CARDS: Base /20 or less, Rookies /5 or less, and Rated Rookies /5.

These are kinda different. I wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been backwards in the pack.

And the soon-to-be giveaway card of a Press Proof black numbered to 10.

Now onto the inserts. Surprisingly only some of the inserts have parallels.
This years Donruss also pays tribute to The Sheriff, Peyton Manning with two insert sets of his. Wonder if Tracy Hackler had attributed to this.....

Classic insert finds like Legends Of The Fall

Gridiron Kings. I also got the Mariota Studio parallel which feels like canvas.

Fans Of The Game which I landed the best of the best I think (other than Pacino)

Production Line and a throwback to 1987 design.

And it wouldn't be Elite without The Elite Series. Beautiful cards!

Or Dominator....The Elite Series rookies have a different design then the veteran ones.
Now onto the hits. You get two per box from a huge variety of options along with huge autograph chances.

My first pull was this Jersey King of Phillip Rivers, look for this card in a future NFL contest.

And my autograph pull of the box.....RUN DMC! Cool pull! As you all know I am a fan of pop culture and sports combined.

Also find Signature Marks, Enshrined, Super Bowl Signatures, Legends of the Fall, All-Time Gridiron Kings, Gridiron Kings, The Elite Series, Dominators, and The Rookies signatures.
Overall, a very solid break for the price. I felt the same way about the baseball version. I think the number of numbered cards, the hits you could pull, the rookie cards and all of the inserts pack not only a fun box to break, but worth-the-price break.

This is supposed to be a lower-end kinda break but I liked this break more than some of the more expensive stuff. Just like I did with Score and just like it did with Score, it left me wanting more.

Now onto the giveaway.

To win this:
Just read the instructions:

TTM:Success? Tim Allen

The title is quite different isn't it?

I can say what I got back was a success as I did receive something back from Tim Allen. But, I don't believe I would call it a TTM auto success.

Awhile back, I am behind on posting a few of these, I sent a request to Tim Allen with a handwritten note and a blank white filler card to be signed. It took well over a month for a response, but one came and when I got it, I had actually forgotten I sent it.

This photo at first glance seems to contain a legit autograph from the legend. I was super stoked to get this back from the guy who played on Home Improvement, was Santa for my childhood, went to infinity and beyond and plays in one of my favorite shows of today, Last Man Standing.

But upon further research and some investigating, I see this isn't an autograph and is just a printed photo.

Still a cool piece for my man cave, just not what I was hoping for.

However, I did re-mail a new request out to Tim at a different address hoping for better results. This time instead of sending a black white filler card to sign, I sent some photocopied pictures hoping to catch his attention more.

I actually already know the results of my mailing and will let you guys know in a few days as I am still trying to catch up on posts.

REVIEW:2016 Panini Unparalleled Football (AUTO GIVEAWAY)

Panini the last few years has taken what I feel is a dive back to the 90's and I have been completely on board with it.

This one has a Leaf Quantum feel, but one that is taken to the max. If you like squigglies and everything shiny, well, this one is definitely for you.

Read on to see more.

In every box of 2016 Panini Unparalleled football is 8 Packs with 10 Cards Per Pack. Each Box contains One Autograph and Two Memorabilia Cards and also has....
  • 3 #'D CARDS
  • 1 INSERT PER PACK
  • 3 PARALLELS PER PACK
  • 4 BASE PER PACK
  • 2 ROOKIES PER PACK
 And boxes go for $90.

The base cards are hard to explain so I had to borrow the info from Panini's Knights Lance blog to help with defining them. The designs are very shiny, sparkly, glittery and so on. It does appear that the base goes by color more than design so check below on how to define them.

Screen Shot 2016-08-09 at 2.55.56 PM
Screen Shot 2016-08-09 at 2.56.37 PM
There are 100 veterans and legends (1-100) along with 100 rookies (101-200) involved. Some of the rookies may be guys you haven't heard of so it gives a good opportunity to get those type of players before they turn into stars.

This kinda product is lots of fun for those who like to collect rainbows of their favorite players or rookies.

Now onto the inserts.

The shiny sparkly design stays true throughout the product. Each insert has it's own set of parallels of Orange /99, Red /49, Blue /25, Green /10, Gold /5,  and Black 1/1.
The insert themes are well done. I mean Pivotal Drive are key players you would want to be on the field towards the end of the game and All-Pro is self explanatory.
Perfect Pairs has teammates who are ready to tear it up!

Zoned, love the Eli by the way, players with numbers from their best game of 2015.

World Class Records has players with just that.

Now onto the hits!

My first pull was a RPS Rookie Material dual jersey. There are different levels to find of these including Dual /199, Dual Prime /49, Triple /25, Triple Prime /10, Brand Logo /2, and Triple Tag 1/1. The base ones with one swatch are numbered to 299.

This is a veteran memorabilia set. These have parallels as well of Dual /99 and Triple #49 or less.
Mine is a slick sick patch triple relic. Love the relics on the card design. And don't tell me you don't.

And my final pull, I was hoping for a RPS Rookie Autograph Jersey Relic, but they fall one in every other box, but I did get a top pick. Look above for definition of parallels you can find.

Overall, I am a fan. But, this product won't be for everyone as not everyone digs the shiny/swirly in-depth designs in this product. Collecting a set or putting a rainbow of your favorite players would be a ton of fun. Or just chasing the memorabilia cards as I still like those a lot.
The inserts are nice, the memorabilia cards look spectacular and the autographs don't look too bad either and the design drowns out the sticker autos. And the checklist includes veterans, legends and rookie hits throughout. So you are not just getting a bunch of rookie related material.

The cost is what I would expect for a product like this. My box wasn't the best break, but I think with the number of numbered cards you are expected and the possible chance at big hits this one is worth a try. But, only if you are a fan of the design. If not, you probably shouldn't bust.
