Not The Same Anymore

For years now, I as a football card collector was very happy with the variety I was given on the market. It was much different than the other sports after Panini stuck their foot in the sport card market. I could buy some unlicensed with SA-GE or Leaf. I could even dip into some NCAA with Upper Deck and their incredible product lineup. I was even offered some NFL from Topps and from Panini. Football collecting was good.

Then hit 2016, the year that has changed it all.

Now my offering is simple, it's Panini or nothing. Yes, I could always dip into the unlicensed stuff, but that was usually stuff I bought to fill the time for other releases. Now some of my favorite products I won't see on the market in 2016. No more Spx. No more Topps flagship. No more Upper Deck. No more Sp Authentic. No more Topps Chrome. No more Topps Platinum. No more Finest. No more, no more, no more.

RIP Topps Finest, you will be missed
It's not that I have anything at all against Panini as I enjoy a lot of their products, but once in awhile, I liked having my options. If I felt like busting a pack of Topps Chrome over a pack of Score I could. If a box of Spx was tempting, I could go get it. Now, it's a lineup of Panini NFL and NCAA products to choose from. To make it a bit tougher to swallow, Most NCAA products so far are matching the same products I could buy NFL-wise later on in the year. That makes the variety list even smaller.

Why two Contenders brands??? Why?!?!?!?
I now feel you baseball, basketball and hockey card fans who are scratching at the walls for variety and options. I never thought the football card market would be this way, but reality has now settled in.

I have always hated exclusive licenses, but now that my football card market is apart of the mess, words cannot express how I feel about them. I just hope someday when these licenses are up for grabs again that other companies will be able to take their piece of the market back again. This goes for all sports.

Will the change in 2016 change the way I collect football cards? Probably not. I collect football cards, I collect NFL ones. If this is all I am offered, I guess I have to take it.

So how do the rest of you football card collectors feel? Happy with the Panini only options? Miss other companies being apart of the football card market? Which products will you miss in 2016? (other collectors from other sports can join in too of course for their respected sport)

Nuttin But The Hits:2016 Score Football Jumbo Hobby Box

A couple of days ago, I posted about my vacation where it's my only time of the year to get to an LCS, and how I made a second appearance. Luckily as I said in the last post, I was good friends with the shop owners and they were able to give me a solid deal on a hobby jumbo box of Score. Cause one taste of it wasn't enough.

First off, my key rookies. I am still lacking a Wentz rookie this year. Glad to get my first Adams rookie for the Giants. Heard he could be a beast.

My first insert was a unique one. It's one of the Pepsi Rookie Of The Weeks and I got a great one in Jameis Winston.

Up next, Jared Goff RED NFL Draft card and a /20 parallel of Chris Ivory Franchise insert.

Tons of colored parallels in Score this year. All of these are /99.

Artist Proof parallels numbered to 50.

More parallels

And more. The Red Zone of Stills is /35

And now the hits. I was really impressed to get 4 autographs and no jersey cards. I was told this is a common thing in this years Score. My first two autographs had me very excited. I just wished I could predict the future so I wouldn't had already bought an Score Apple auto, but I guess two doesn't hurt.

Paul Perkins is an autograph I had wanted. Getting two out of three of the Giants autos I really wanted was awesome.

Heard this guy is supposed to be good. But, I will admit, I am not a fan of pulling the defense guys. I don't mind if they are Giants ones, but not other teams. Hopefully this guy will be good to make this pull worthwhile.

And to end it, my 2nd first round pick auto of the box in Washington's Doctson who seems to make an appearance every time I open a pack. This one is /50

Overall, a very solid break and one that I was very happy with. This years Score is just as good as 2013's except this is a better class. The combo of Hot Rookies parallels added to Score is a significant improvement over the bland parallels that are usually included. I hope that Panini improves on every NFL product like this one especially now being the only NFL licensed cards out on the market.

What are your guys thoughts on this break and 2016 Score?

Have You....

Have you checked out my other blogs yet??

That 90's Sport Card Blog features cards of the 90's. I post a card up 2-3 times a week to bring back those fond memories of 90's collecting. I cover all sports and non-sports. It's fun to take a trip down memory lane.

Hampton's Cardboard Craze is also mostly 90's and focusing on Rodney Hampton cardboard. If you are a NY Giants fan or just like to see some cool 90's football cardboard, check it out. These cards are not the ones featured on Sunday's With Rodney.

And The Card Bin. I usually just post up random cards not featured on here, but recently I have added two new segments in Faces In Sports Cards and Guess The Auto Tuesday that I thought some of you may enjoy. I haven't gotten much interaction on those yet, but hopefully if I point it out you guys will join in. If not, may be segments I bring on here later on.

Also, to end this post. Check out Pull Tab Awareness week on Baseball Card Breakdown blog. You can check that out HERE. It's a very important read if you trade or ship things out.

Have a great Wednesday!

HOBBY TOPIC

This series is all about you, the readers. My opinion is mum on every subject, however, you guys have the open mic per say on here. So without further ado, here is today' topic:

FOOTBALL CARDS, 2016

I know it bothers me, but how do you feel about having one license for football cards in 2016 and what brand will you miss the most?

An ABSOLUTEly Nice Mail Day

A few weeks ago, I was DM'd on Twitter by friend and Sport Card Collector's reader, @DieselDugong, about a card he thought deserved to be in my hands more than his. Well, that card arrived today and I was in disbelief.

Along with the main card I will show below, he sent along some extra cards too.

Some for my Yankees PC. I really like the Montgomery and this is my first Tyler Austin.

Some for my Giants PC and a couple sub-PC's

And one for my NY Rangers PC.

Then hidden behind the Lundqvist was this beauty.....

A 2013 Absolute Printing Plate 1/1 autograph of David Wilson.

I was in "absolute" shock to see this card in the envelope and am still blown away staring at it.

This fits many PC's with it being David Wilson (who I wished could have played longer but I did enjoy watching his talents for the time he did play), a NY Giant, a Printing Plate and an autograph.

A huge thanks goes out to @DieselDugong for this amazing card and the others as well. I have also found a few cards I think that will look better in your collection then mine I am putting together too so be on the lookout ;)

So what do the rest of you think of my mail day????

Nuttin But The Hits:2016 Score Football Jumbo 2-Packs

One thing you may not have realized, since it seems I am always around, a few weeks ago I was on vacation for a few days. It's the one time a year I get to relax and get to visit an LCS where I have become pretty good friends with the owners.

The first day of my stay, I went in and picked up two jumbo packs of 2016 Score football as I was dying to try some. I think these two packs went pretty successful I must say.

In every jumbo pack of 2016 Score, there are 40 cards that are broken down into veterans, inserts, possible hit and rookies. To me, the packs are like digging for treasure and I enjoy every second of doing so.

My key rookies from the two packs are these two. My first Shepard rookie card.

I pulled this /35 insert.

And this numbered to 99 one. Beautiful looking parallels. It seems they took the theme of Hot Rookies and combined it with Score making one amazing symphony.

I was even fortunate enough to pull an autograph. This is an Artist Proof auto /35.

Not a bad two Jumbo packs I will say. $20 well spent. This wasn't my only trip in the shop. I will say though with so many expenses this year I wasn't able to nearly buy as much as I usually do. My purchases overall this year are way down as other important things have come first. I was actually even lucky enough to get this trip and had to raise the credit card debt to make a couple hobby purchases which part 2 of comes in a couple of days. Stay tuned!

Sports Challenge Contest Week 4 Game Picks

NEWBIES CAN NO LONGER ENTER. IF A NEWBIE, PLEASE ENTER OTHER CONTESTS.

YOU MUST ENTER THIS FINAL WEEK IF YOU ARE ALREADY INVOLVED IN THE CONTEST TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A RUNNING AT THE PRIZE!!!!!!!!!! IF YOUR NAME DOESN'T APPEAR THIS WEEK, YOU ARE ELIMINATED.

Here is the fourth and final round of weekends games towards my Sports Challenge Contest.

READ CONTESTANTS!!!!
I must apologize first of all. I shouldn't have updated Saturday's standings before last nights points game. But, due to my error, I had to award those who bid all of their points the points they earned including Saturday's. So that helped some and others kept them in this contest. Up to this point, nobody is out. Not unless you don't enter this week. Even those of you with limited points can even win. When I held past contests like this I saw people with under 10 points pull out victory. So use your points wisely this week as I think this will be a doozy of a week and a grand finale like no other.

In comments, just pick the winners. Please take a second out to put Sat for Saturday games and Sun for Sunday games as I listed them here.

You will earn 1 point for each game right. You will earn 0 points for games wrong.

Have fun and good luck!

YOU HAVE TIL FRIDAY 8PM E.T. TO GET YOUR GAME PICKS IN OR THEY WON'T COUNT.

Boys and girls, good luck this week. I hope you know your WNBA!
(Sat)urday Games:

YOU WILL ONLY LOSE OR GAIN THE AMOUNT OF POINTS ON THAT LINK. SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WNBA GAMES WILL COUNT TOWARDS YOUR FINAL SCORE SO NOBODY SHOULD END UP WITH 0. UNLESS YOU GET THEM ALL WRONG AND BID ALL OF YOUR POINTS TOO.

Bonus Game:
This is one you will bid some of your points on. You know, the ones you have earned up to this point. Get it right, get that amount of points you bid. Get it wrong, well, sorry sunny, you lose em! But, be smart in choosing your point total. You lose em all, you are eliminated from the final week and from this contest.

Quaker State 400 Presented by Advance Auto Part. I want you to pick a Top 5 finisher and gamble your points :) You must gamble at least 1 point.

  1. ***VERY IMPORTANT***MUST BE A U.S. RESIDENT to enter or have a shipping address in the U.S. Shipping costs have gone haywire and I can't afford to ship everywhere. This is always hard to do as I appreciate all readers but I hope you all understand non-U.S. readers.
  2. Top three point scorers will win a prize
  3. Entrants must pick winners for the list of games given. They will mostly be baseball at this point but other sports may be included. There will be special days to earn bonus points or lose them. The last day of the contest, contestants will be asked to gamble their points away to try and out-win others in an ALL OUT BATTLE! In case of a tie for the top three spots, one extra day to earn points will be added just for those in the running. I have seen people win in the past with minimal points before, so make sure you use your points reasonably on the final day.
  4. CardS may be shipped PWE. I like to forewarn on this.
  5. Sport Card Collectors or it's owner (person who runs the blog), WILL NOT be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged mail. Sorry had to add this in since someone tried to scam me once about this.
  6. Make sure to thank, BCW Supplies, Topps, Panini, Cryptozoic and Sport Card Collectors for their generosity.
ALSO, PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY. ALL COMMENTS WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE IN MODERATION. YOU WILL NOT SEE THEM APPEAR BELOW. THIS WILL MAKE THE CONTEST MORE FUN AND CHALLENGING AS YOU WILL NOT SEE WHO WINS TIL I ANNOUNCE IT.

WINNERS WILL APPEAR AFTER I AM DONE ADDING THE POINTS UP. HOWEVER, I HAVE A VERY, VERY BUSY WEEKEND AHEAD AND WILL MOST LIKELY NOT BE ABLE TO GET THESE/WINNERS  PUT TOGETHER TIL WEDNESDAY OR EVEN A BIT LATER BUT WE WILL SEE.

Saturday Bombardment

I was messaged earlier this week by reader, Grady M, that I will be receiving yet another one of his infamous packages packed full of inserts.

Well, what arrived was much, much more than I expected. He bombarded me BIG TIME.

This what feels like 10lb bad boy was packed to the top with inserts, base, and a few other surprises from all sports. I hadn't been this bombarded since Wes at Jaybarkerfan's Junk unloaded on me.

It will take me awhile to sort through it all and there is so much that I can't even post it all. But, I will point out key pieces over the next few weeks that I found.

A big thanks goes out to Grady M who is not only a generous guy (he also unloads commons and more to kids to help grow the hobby), but he is also a really nice person despite his Dallas Cowboys trash talk to me haha. But, it's all fun.

Stay tuned for more on this un-boxing!

WINNER OF THE WALKING DEAD AUTOGRAPH! (Shipping Update)

Another contest down. Another winner announcement.

This contest no way near came to the amount of entries I expected. I thought with such a popular show we would be looking at least 35 entries, but only managed a very sad 16. But, the comments were very helpful I hope for Cryptozoic.

So, let's get onto a winner...

There were 18 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Bradley Defreitas
  2. Nick

You have randomized this list 7 times.

Congrats to Bradley! Please email me your addy to sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com within in the next 48 hours or your card will be re-given away in a future contest.

Thanks again to everyone who entered and Bradley if you could give Cryptozoic and myself a shoutout when you get the card, that would be appreciated.

As for shipping prizes recently, I am way behind. Topps Series 2 winners, I hope by weeks end to have yours out. I also have a few other surprise envelopes I am mailing just because I like giving. I still need to get to the post office to buy postage to mail. With my busy schedule in July and the post office only being open a few hours a day, timing has been a problem. But, don't fret, I always ship my prizes.

Stay tuned for more contests to come!

Sunday's With Rodney:1994 Action Packed Warp Speed

Action Packed will always be known for its embossed cards to make you "feel" the game.

They also put out some pretty cool inserts.Warp Speed had a colored foil design that gave you the feeling of a time tunnel vortex. Only the fastest runners were apart of the set. You know, the ones that run, warp speed.

There were 12 cards overall with Hampton falling at card #7.
