1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack # 17

Simply put, today's are all doubles.

However, I never mind finding another Jeter.
Let's hope that Pack #18 is more helpful, you will find out tomorrow!

Top 5:1994-1995 Ultra Basketball Base Cards

It has been a very long time since I have done one of the Top 5 posts, so why not do it? I also haven't ever done a Basketball one yet so this will be fun as well. I have however done Ultra many times and today is another year of Ultra. Their base cards just look so good it's hard to not do that brand.

So let's get to this.

First I want you to remember, these are the Top 5 in my opinion. You guys may have your own thoughts on these.

Up first, #5. This one is a great angle of a player trying to do a layup and Greg Anderson trying to get the block.

#4 showcases the smooth move by Tyrone Hill to get past one of my favorite Knicks, Patrick Ewing. its fun to think what may be going through Patrick's head right there.

#3 takes us high flying with Loy Vaught. In the background you can also notice a Kings player throwing their hands up in disbelief on this soon to be dunk.

#2 I not only like the angle of the shot, but the player next to Benoit's reaction to his upcoming dunk. He looks in shock.

And finally, #1 is Shaq's dunk, the fans reactions in the background and the opposing player watching this play happen sets the stage for a well rounded action shot.

Do you agree with my list? Do you have other favorites you would have stuck in here instead? Thoughts on the 94-95 Ultra basketball design? (which by the way I really like the Ultra foil with the hoop)

1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack #16

Finally, a pack that provides me some more set help. All three of these cards will go towards my set.
Slammin Sammy. I liked him know. I think I have repeated that enough during this series.

Jim Thome to me was the ageless wonder. Seems like he continued to hit no matter the team and age.

Jason Kendall was one of the leagues better catchers during his playing time.
Another pack on it's way tomorrow. We are closing in on the end.

REVIEW:May 2016 Baseball Loot Locker

Are you like me and don't have an LCS? Tired of buying retail packs that have been searched or given you nothing in return? Do you have an itch to bust a few hobby packs but don't want to pay outrageous shipping costs to get it there? And don't you want a place to store those cards or have something to put those big pulls in afterwards?

I know I do.

So if you are like me don't you just wished there was a simple solution....

Well...there may be...GO TRY....The Loot Locker!

Yes this may sound like an infomercial but what I say is true. Get one of these bad boys delivered to your door that contains 4-6 hobby packs, comes in a 400ct reusable box and also comes with some penny sleeves/toploaders. You can either just order one when you can afford to or subscribe and get them delivered monthly. The choice is yours.

Below is an example of what you may find in a baseball one. The Loot Lockers also come in Basketball, Football and Hockey.
Each month the hobby pack offerings are different because they are voted on by fans who follow The Loot Locker on Twitter. At the beginning of a new month, The Loot Locker has you narrow a list down to the Top 3 pack choices and that will be the offerings for that month. They do this for each sport every month.

So let's get to crackin my first Loot Locker which I chose as baseball since it's the in-season sport.

After you open your locker, this is what you will see. A well packed package (try to say that a few times). Believe me, I shook it before I opened it and you couldn't hear a single thing in there. I wanted this to be a very thorough review.

You remove the bubble wrap, and KAZAAAM there is the good stuff.

Not only is the box it is shipped in reusable, but you also get these new toploaders and penny sleeves to use. Whether it's for cards you pull in this package or cards you already have. There are roughly 10 of each I believe. They are also Ultra Pro not that generic dollar store stuff.

Free candy included too. Nobody ever complains about bonuses like that. Going to chew on this Dubble Bubble while breakin the wax....

Okay, so here was May's Pack Offerings. Some good ones for sure. I had wanted to try Bowman's Best and now I get the chance to.

Time to rip!!

No autograph pulls from my Bowman Chrome, but I get some prospects, a refractor, a die cut Puig and a pretty slick Aaron Judge.

The Bowmans Best pack didn't provide me a hit either, but I did pull a really nice looking Mirror Image insert.

Totally digging this card. #The90's

And my final pack was Gypsy Queen. No hits but I did pull a mini and a rookie card I didn't have so that was a plus.

Well, that takes it to the end of my Loot Locker break. I didn't pull any hits, but I still had fun and the thrill of the rip was satisfied for the time being.
Now, just because I didn't pull any hits, doesn't mean they were pack searched or scammed. A lot of legitimate hobby collectors I follow have posted their Loots and have pulled some incredible cards including a Michael Jordan auto. All of which you can view right, HERE and see for yourself. Maybe your pull picture could be there next!
I would guess by now you must be asking yourself, what's one of these cost? Well, they are $20 plus S&H each. I priced the packs alone at that from the cheapest place I know and that's not counting the reusable box and protectors. So it's a deal and it's delivered to you.
Before I close, I also wanted to mention that there are bonuses that are offered as well. Such as bonus packs, Lockers and more! So there is a lot offered here and makes me really want to see how the other sports are now!

I know many of you have that will be reading this, but if you haven't or just want to again, please check out The Loot Locker website and see if there is something that fits your budget there.
I would also enjoy to hear your thoughts on The Loot Locker in the comments below.

1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack # 15

Another day, another silver pack cracked.

Today's pack featured cards toward my set and is made up of players I considered semi-stars.

Juan-Gone had some decent seasons and he also had some pretty bad ones.

Bernie is one of the Yankee greats in my opinion. He had a never give up approach and was apart of those great Yankee teams of the 90's. Seems so long ago when the Yankees ruled baseball.

Most games are so hard to watch now.

Rey Ordonez was a decent player and was a much better fielder than hitter. Especially when it came to dropping down bunts.
Pack #16 will be posted tomorrow. Hope to see ya back!

REVIEW:2015-2016 Panini Clear Vision Basketball (GIVEAWAY)

A product that I thought was pretty cool in football, now takes it turn in basketball.

What are my thoughts? Well, follow link to see!
In each hobby box of 2015-2016 Panini Clear Vision there are 5 Packs per box with 4 Cards Per Pack. Each box guarantees 2 Rookies, One Insert, and Two Parallels Per Box. Boxes don't guarantee hits per box and boxes run around $70. This was posted on Panini's Knight's Lance blog on the autographs, "2015-16 Clear Vision Basketball will deliver three autographs per case on average" just to give you some insight.

The base cards in Clear Vision are drastically improved. They remind me more of EX of the late 90's. The player, unlike the football version that printed them on the acetate, is actually printed on cardboard and put on the acetate creating a raised appeal like EX did.

The base set is built of veterans, rookies and rookie revisions totaling 141 cards to collect.

Here is a side look at it. I think this drastically improves the look of the base cards.

The base rookies have the same design besides the background and have photo variations that fall 1:28 packs.

The base cards also include Rookie Revisions that uses player rookie year photos. There are photo variations to these as well. Between rookies and Rookie Revisions there are 36 overall variations to collect. I can't seem to find a gallery to link you to of the variations so I can't tell if I have any either. If you know of one, please comment with it.

Parallels are pretty easy to see. As I wanna joke, they are pretty CLEAR to me.

There are Blue #/149, Red #/99, Purple #/25, Gold #/10, Black 1/1
My box had a blue of Kevin Durant

And a red of Timberwolves rookie, Nemanja Bjelica
I didn't hit an autograph, but you can find CLEAR VISION SIGNATURES which features vets and rookies and VISIONARY SIGNATURES which are legends that also can have short printed variations with inscriptions.
There also appears to be no jersey cards in the product but I don't think that hurts it too much.
Overall, I like the look of the overall product. Even the autograph offerings look nice. However, I am not quite sold on the price per box vs what you are getting. Seems a bit steep and a big gamble for a product only offering three autos per case. However, that does mean the autographs are actually worth something compared to other products that offer them per box.

I guess for me, I would like to see the box price drop to $50 and then I would be ok taking a gamble especially on a product that looks nice. Other than that, it would be a fun base set to chase down.

Now it's time for the giveaway!

It's as easy as can be to enter to win this Nemanja Bjelica parallel above. Just read and follow these rules:

1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack # 14

After today we will officially be down to 10, yes, 10 packs. There still has to be at least one insert hiding in there, but I am hoping for more.

Today's pack was a good mix of players all new towards my set needs.

I like this Hundley card. Shows him both running and hitting. Great stuff.

Raul's stance tells us he is ready to club the ball....or someone.

This guy never quite panned out. All of those rookie cards sat in binders just looking at me.
Pack #15 being posted tomorrow so stay tuned!

The 90's Collection:1995 Topps Dimension 3D Don Mattingly

In 1995, Topps came out with a full set of Lenticular cards that was supposed to be revolutionary. Well, it really wasn't. Many brands before them had already introduced this technology to baseball cards including Pinnacle UC3. It also had a weird amount of cards in the base set with only 59 and there was only one insert set to collect. They also were asking $5 a pack for 5 cards. Pretty expensive for those days.

The 3D look doesn't look that 3D to me. I think what I like most about the card has nothing to do with the technology, it's the angle of the photo shots and this one of Mattingly with the wide open photography is quite impressive.
What are your guys thoughts on 1995 Topps Dimension 3D Baseball?

1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack # 13

Time for another riveting adventure into a UD3 pack. Today marks Pack #13 so we are more than halfway done.

Today's pack, well, all doubles. But a couple of good players found so I am okay with that.
Pack #14 coming at ya tomorrow!

Spectacular Advertising

Being a 90's kinda guy, one of the magazines I read from the 90's was Disney Adventures. The magazine discussed some of my favorite 90's Disney cartoons like Ducktales, Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop to name a few. It also contained comics of them as well so it was a well rounded winner.

So recently I found a newer issue, by newer I mean 2007, which was the final run of the magazine that started in 1990 and for fun went through it cover to cover to check it out.

I saw the usual things I remembered and then I came upon a very cool ad...
To me, this was a great advertisement for baseball cards. You combine every kids favorite and very popular Pokemon with baseball cards and you grab some attentions. Not to mention you also put it in the popular magazine that also has the word Disney on it, how do you not make some sales.

I know magazines today are more of a thing of the past (not for me as I prefer physical magazines over online ones) and probably wouldn't be a top ad place, but there is TV and that will never die. So why not do more advertising that way? Especially combining popular things of today with cards. Why not show Olaf from Frozen breaking a few packs of Topps or opening up his own Panini Sticker collection stickers? Why not have an Angry Bird ripping apart an Upper Deck hockey card pack? Or Darth Vader ripping a pack of Topps Star Wars open? I know it will take some investment on the companies sides to pay for use of those things, but I think if we want the youth of today joining in or being interested in today's hobby, I think it's important to see what interests them and use that to our advantage.

Will it help bring a huge up-rise to the hobby? Probably not. But, it may at least bring in a few more youth and those youth may discuss it with others and who knows where that ends up. Anything that can help the hobby grow will be huge.

What do you guys think? Should companies use popular things like Frozen to advertise cards?

1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack # 12 (INSERT PULL!!!)

It took til pack #12, but we finally have an insert sighting. I wished the rest of the pack was solid to build around it as I added two more doubles which doesn't help my set, but just happy to see an insert finally.

Generation Next of Jermaine Dye. These fall 1:11 packs and are basically designed with the foil they used for the Pro Motion base card. This card also took place of my Homerun Heroes base. Not a bad looking card and not a bad player though I preferred to see the Jeter version.

First Yard Sale Find Of 2016

It has nearly been two years since I have had any luck at yard sales, of course last year I didn't go to as many but I never saw the word sports cards in ads so I didn't attempt to go.

This year I am off to what seems a good start. My mother-in-law went to a Friday yard sale, something that's uncommon as Friday yard sales are pretty slow in sales, and she stumbled upon this stack containing four sets, two white boxes and a baby wipes box packed with cards.
$20 later and she delivered them to her favorite son-in-law. She is always on the lookout for me. I will say she is not like any other mother-in-law for sure.
So as I do with a lot of things on here, I will be breaking this down and see what you guys think. I will need your opinion to see if this was worth her $20. At this point, I have no idea what is in here. So buckle your seat belts, this could be fun!

1997 Upper Deck UD3 Baseball Pack # 11

Pack #11 I was really itching to see an insert, but no such luck.

Actually my luck also ended with not getting any doubles too as all three cards in this pack were doubles.

So no new additions to my set.

However, at least these doubles still equal a pretty solid pack with Big Mac and Rocket Roger.
