Reminiscing 90's:1992 Disney DARKWING DUCK Kellogg’s PVC

Key notes for December 26th 1992:
December 26th 1992 was a Saturday
George H.W.Bush was President
Most Popular Movie released in December of 1992 was Chaplin
Most Popular Book around this time was Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
Billboard Hot 100 number-one single on December 26th 1992 was I will Always Love You by Whitney Houston
SPORTS New York Jets' announcer Marty Glickman retires at age 75.

If you knew me in the neighborhood, you knew I was madly in love with watching my afternoon cartoons when I got home from school. One of my favorites was Darkwing Duck. What wasn't there to like about this show? Really cool bad guys, some comedic relief, a good guy with Flair and at the end of the day it shows you need to count on family and friends. I was also super-stoked when they brought the show to Saturday's as well on ABC's One Saturday Morning.

Like I mentioned above, Darkwing always had Flair. So the obvious choice of cards would be Flair. Favorite show plus one of my favorite products, great combo. There are a couple of years featured here.. All are spectacular.

Two ROWS of Deion!

This guy was pretty Sharpe most of the time.....
This is probably one of my favorites so far in this series. I still have other figures from the PVC set so don't fret, more to come!

How many of you were Darkwing Duck fans? Own any collectibles from the show?

The One Time A Connor Shaw Autograph Is Worth $100

You read it in the headline folks, I have found a Connor Shaw autograph that is worth $100. Now the $100 I speak of isn't cash, but it's something just as awesome, it's a $100 gift card to Steiner Sports!!

Steiner Sports announced a promotion yesterday, you can find it HERE, where you can trade in an autographed Cleveland Browns photo, mini helmet, football, jersey or card from any of the team's starters at quarterback since 1999 for a $100 gift card in return! It's a way to give back to those Brown's fans who have gone through so much QB drama. Or for collecting fans like me who sat and waited on a guy who I thought might be one of those surprise undrafted rookies who makes it big time. Sorry Connor, your 177 yards in the 2014 finale as a starter isn't enough for me.

So here is the card I will be submitting in tomorrow.

Back Of The Card:

One of the biggest rules of the promotion is that it had to be a legit autograph from legit companies. Right here is my guarantee.

And here he is getting packed up for his journey. I will miss the card a bit because I do like the design, but Steiner offers so many great items that I am sure I will soon forget.

I made sure to include an index card with my info for the gift card.

Final envelope all addressed and protected to go out in the mail tomorrow.

Once this reaches them, it says on the site it will take up to three weeks to receive the gift card if you are approved. I assume all that means is if the item you sent in is off their list and is legit. Which mine is.

I will let you guys know what I pick up with the gift card once I get it back. I have my eyes on a few things.

In comments, let me know if you are participating and your thoughts on this once in a lifetime promotion.

PS: I am hoping if they do another promo like this that its a Browns Running Back one. They have suffered there a lot to and my collection is loaded with them. Thanks Trent Richardson and Terrence West.

Panini America vs Topps Redemption Replacement:Battle For The Ages

Last month I posted two redemption replacement mail days that I received with one being from Topps and the other from Panini. I thought it would be fun to breaking it down on how I got these replaced and to see which company came out on top in their replacement.

Here we go!

Panini America
What I got replaced:
2014 Panini Preferred (14-15)
Card #240 ( / 35)
Kyrie Irving Cleveland Cavaliers G

What Arrived:

Estimated Time Of Response To Replacing: 3 Hours
Contacted Via: Twitter
Delivery: 5 Days
Equal Value: Yes
Team Of Choice: Yes

 What I got replaced:
2014 Five Star Five Star Auto Rainbow Parallel of Rashad Jennings

What Arrived:
Estimated Time Of Response To Replacing: 2 Months
Contacted Via: Email

Delivery: 3 Days
Equal Value: Yes (if not a bit more)
Team Of Choice: No

I think it's pretty easy to see who won this round. Topps had the faster delivery but a TERRIBLE response time as opposed to Panini who quickly responded then turned around and replaced it. Not to mention Panini offered my team of choice over Topps who I mentioned which team I liked and got another.

I will admit however my Topps replacement is the best one I have ever gotten from them so that part was headed in the right direction. I think the most frustrating was getting a response. I understand that they are busy, but isn't Panini too? I think maybe a Topps C.S. Twitter account like they used to have may help some.

What do you guys think and how has your experiences been with either company?

Breakin Wax:2015 Upper Deck Dinosaurs Hobby Box

I guess you can call it the nerd in me, but when I heard that Upper Deck was coming out with an all dinosaurs product, I was pretty excited. It's dinosaurs man!

For some reason my box picture is missing, but here is a breakdown on this great product.

Every hobby box of 2015 UD Dinosaurs comes with 20 packs per box and 5 cards per pack. You will also find the following:
  • Four (4) 3-D Lenticular Dinosaur cards per box
  • One (1) Age of the Dinosaurs patch card per box
  • One (1) hand-drawn Dinosaur sketch card per box
  • Five (5) Dinosaur stickers per box
The base cards are like any other Upper Deck base cards, photography based. Some amazing images they found. You would swear they got in a time machine and got the images.

There are 100 cards in the base set along with High Series SPs, Sea Creatures that have 25 cards
and Ice Age Creatures with 25 cards. Some added value and fun chase with Sp's in the base set. You get roughly 10 Sp's per box.

Upper Deck brought their canvas innovation to prehistoric times. ROAR!! These mini canvases fall 1:4 packs.

Stickers. Another fun aspect to the product. These fall 1:4 packs.

And one of my favorite inserts, Lenticular. There are many tiers to the program. Most fall 1:7.5 packs.

A lot of 1/1 sketch cards in the product. You will find one per box. They are anywhere between one to four panels. This Wooly Mammoth is pretty spot on and it's beautiful. Another positive on their sketch cards is the thickness of the card. More of a hit thickness compared to most sketch cards.

Back of the card.

Say what??!! Shadow box cards too!!!! These fall 1:40.

And of course this product also includes their famous patch cards. With many levels of rarity as well.
Overall, a pretty cool product. One that I think many kids will fall in love with. My only problem is the price point. It's a bit steep for kids to enjoy so I would recommend to wait til prices drop a bit or if you find a good sale during Black Friday and so on. I understand why it's expensive with so much to find in here and all of the rarities. I was hoping to find one of the rare fossil pieces or the really rare Roar audio books. Especially the fossil, that's simply just cool for this dinosaur fan.

I do like the design, layout, value of the product. If I was going to pick a company to do dinosaurs, Upper Deck would be the one as you see here they hit a home-run.

In Part 1 of What's In The Box Christmas Edition, I showed off some other types of goodies my mother-in-law included in her Christmas present box for me. Today, I am showing off most of the rest.

Inside of the box was both a cheese block box filled with different singles (the better of the two) and a 1994 Stadium Club baseball box filled with 1991 Donruss. I was a bit more intrigued with the cheese box and when I was done I could see why, but I did get to snatch a few good ones from Donruss as well. To save space on here, I am only showcasing the rookies.

Here was the stack of them I found....

Some key ones.... and a NEW Griffey as well!

Some Ventura Topps rookies

Plenty of Gary Sheffields from '89 Donruss

And to my surprise, I found two Griffey Jr rookies in the cheese box.
Overall, not at all a shabby gift. Not like the sweaters she used to get me years ago. Now she knows me better.

What are your thoughts on the newest edition of What's In The Box? What was your favorite find in here?

Wednesday, January 6, 2016

It's been a little while since we have had Christmas and since we have had a What's In The Box, so let's get one put together!

On Christmas, my mother-in-law who is notorious to hit up yard sales and antique shops for presents, hit them up again and found me a few goodies.

Up first, a 1989 10-card postcard set of Lou Gehrig. Pretty cool design.

Then I found what appears to be The World's Smallest Jigsaw Puzzle....

Boy, they weren't lying. Oy! I thought looking at the Beckett in the dark would kill my eyes someday...
By now you are thinking, where are the cards? Well, that answer will follow tomorrow in part 2. There were a few hidden gems as well!

2015 Wallet Card Finale!

Well, a year has passed since I stuck a piece of cardboard under my bum, let's take him out of the wallet  see how he fared....
Honestly, he isn't that bad at all.I have seen others look MUCH MUCH WORSE. A slight crease in the right hand corner and a few small nicks on that side too and that's about it.

So. now I must decide what to do with this card and if I will join in again on the wallet card craze. Not leaning either way on those answers yet but will decide by months end.

In the meantime, I will give Matt some fresh air cause who knows what it was like riding in a wallet for a year....especially after I had some spicy food ;)

How many of you have joined in on 2016 Wallet Card and what card did you choose?

This series is all about you, the readers. My opinion is mum on every subject, however, you guys have the open mic per say on here. So without further ado, here is today' topic:

Do you think if card companies joined forces and put free cards in kids meals with places like McDonalds and Burger King that it would help get kids interested in the hobby? Why or Why not?

Breakin Wax:2014 Crown Royale Football Hobby Box

One of my favorite products found it's way under the Christmas tree this year as a gift from my wife. Dreams of pulling an Odell Beckham Jr. autographed silhouette danced around in my head.

Was my dream going to be a reality? Well, read on.

Sorry I didn't have a picture of the box to post like I usually do, but here is a breakdown of what you will find:

There are 4 Packs per Box and 5 Cards per Pack. Yup, just 20 cards. One autograph or memorabilia card per pack. Every box right now will run you roughly $49.95 Per Box.

I haven't seen the 2015 base card design, but I was a huge fan of 2014's. Also got a PC piece for the Giants. Big time game yesterday for Jennings too.

A couple of parallels. The Martin is numbered to 25 and I know of a perfect place to send it. Grady, I am talking about you.

My first two hits. Single colored jersey cards. At least one was Mike Evans.

My other hit was a 250pt points card that I traded away and this autograph.
I do like the design especially with the rainbow foil, but not the best player to have found.

Overall, a tough break. Outside of the Evans jersey card and PC Giants base card, not much here.

What are your thoughts on my break and have you broken any 2015 Crown Royale? Thoughts on it?

You Might Be A Card Collector If......

You Might Be A Card Collector If......when sitting at the dinner table for Thanksgiving you count the amount of chairs and try to figure out the odds you sit next to gaseous Uncle Louie.

"Oh boy, 1:3 odds this year. I would rather have that be much rarer."

Week 17 Football Notes (Fantasy too)

I haven't updated you guys but I made it to the fantasy football championship game!!

What I didn't realize was that when I set up my league, I made each playoff round two weeks. I should say luckily I did so.

Two weeks ago I pulled off a comeback in the 2nd week of the playoff round to defeat Jammin JDcards and here I sit in the second week of the championship down by 40. My team was awful last week to say the least.

So this week, I made some bold moves as you will see in the pics following. The first picture is our score, second is our match up for today and third is my team. I wanted to show you the many risks I am taking today by benching stars for players I hope step up. I also worry that clinched teams will bench their starters at some point.

As for other notes, Happy Birthday to Giants QB Eli Manning. Go play big!

Also, if this happens to be coach Coughlin's last game, I hope they go out there and give him a good performance. It's the least the team could do for the HOF coach who brought two Super Bowl Trophies to the team

I can see the game going either way. Giants blow out the Eagles or the Eagles blowing them out. Hoping for the first option.

I hope coach Coughlin actually retires instead of going on elsewhere. But, I also think it's time for the Giants to move on from him and hopefully the GM. Four years in a row of subpar teams and no playoffs is enough.

Hope everyone enjoys the final week of the regular season.

Topps Football HOFer Rookie Card Mail Day!

I was recently looking at my want list and compared it to eBay listings for each item. Out of all of the Most Wanted items, the one that stood out the one I felt was a must need was a 1984 Dan Marino rookie card.

I have been waiting to purchase one in hopes that I could trade for one since that is how I got my Elway, but that didn't feel like it was going to happen, so I hit eBay. I was also hoping to land one on an auction deal, but every time I tried, it went more than I was willing to pay. What can I say, I am cheap.

So for the first time in my life, I actually paid $20 for a card. Yes, I am very frugal with how I spend my eBay money. I would rather buy a few lots for the $20 instead of buying one single card. But, this time, I closed my eyes and bought it.

Glad I did.

Other than a little bit of centering, and I mean a little, this card is flawless. A great investment to me. Glad I got myself to bypass my own stinginess.

How many of you suffer from my frugalness about picking up one card over a multitude?
