REVIEW:2016 Topps High Tek Baseball

Everyone who collected back in 1998-2000 remember the Topps Tek name. Now those of this generation should as well as it makes the Topps baseball lineup for the third year in a row bringing what it has always brought..... Lot's of acetate.

Let's see how my first bust of the product in the new era went.

READ ON!

In every box of 2016 Topps High Tek baseball, you will find 1 pack with 8 cards. There will be one on-card autograph and one insert/parallel per pack. Boxes run around $60 which to me isn't too shabby.

The base cards are what I stated above, acetate with a fun rainbow foil shine design in the background. There are variations of the backgrounds with some being tougher than others to find. The best way I could tell the difference with them was this article on Beckett I suggest you check out HERE.

The base also include players from past, present and future.

Here are the easiest and most common base in my pack.

Here is a bit tougher of a base find in variation 2B, the buckle.

I found a couple of rookies in my pack.

This is the tougher pattern in 3, this is 3B. Waves.

I pulled a pretty nice parallel in my box. A Kris Bryant green numbered to 99

Other parallels include,
  • Tidal Diffractor Parallel
  • Green Rainbow Parallel
  • Orange Magma Diffractor Parallel: Sequentially numbered to 25
  • Black Rainbow Parallel: Numbered 1/1.
  • Black Galactic Diffractor Parallel: Numbered 1/1.
  • Printing Proofs: Numbered 1/1.
Inserts you can find include, HOME UNIFORM SHORT PRINTS, BRIGHT HORIZONS and HIGHLIGHTS:

Now time for my autograph pull. All autographs are on card so you know that already rocks. Looks really nice on the acetate too.

I pulled a base version of Juan Gonzalez.

These have parallels to. They are:
  • Gold Rainbow Parallel: Sequentially numbered.
  • Orange Magma Diffractor Parallel: Sequentially numbered to 25.
  • Red Orbit Diffractor Parallel: Sequentially numbered to 5.
  • Black Galactic Diffractor Parallel: Numbered 1/1.
  • Printing Proofs: Numbered 1/1.
There is also TEK BUYBACKS.
Topps buybacks of Diffractor parallels and inserts from the 1998 - 2000 Topps Tek series will be signed ON-CARD and numbered. That's a nice addition.
Overall, I felt good about this break and felt the price wasn't too high. I would probably wait a little bit for it to drop before I would try another just because the value is based on that one hit. But there are plenty of good ones to have.
The cards look really nice and the on-card autos are a great addition. The checklist of players in both base and autographs are solid.
I think the toughest thing for a collector in this product is telling the difference in the base cards but hopefully the guide that Beckett provided will make things a bit easier. It's probably not a kid friendly product just because of the base depth.
This product is a great one for team and player collectors as you try to chase down the parallels and base card variations of them.
Thanks to Topps for providing this box to review and please check them out on all social media sites and their website. Look for some of these cards in a future promo!
