REVIEW:2016-2017 Prizm Basketball

5 years.

Where has the time gone?

5 years since the inaugural kickoff of Prizm basketball. I can still remember when I opened it back then. Not much has changed, except additional parallels, which if you have a winning formula, stick with it.

Let's see how my break went.

In every hobby jumbo box of 2016-2017 Prizm basketball there are 12 packs of 12 cards. You should find a little over 20 Prizm parallels and 2 autographs per box. Boxes run $150 currently.

The base card set is probably the best it has looked yet. If you look really closely you can see a basketball texture built into the background of the card. I also like how thick the base cards are so they won't bend later on in life. Sometimes chrome cards won't stay straight.

The checklist is 300 cards deep with players of  today and tomorrow. I like the fact they are sorted by team on the checklist. Excluding the rookies who make up the end of the set which I am okay with.

Prizm also has players updated with their new teams. Whether they are in the jerseys or hoisting them like the rookie above.

Prizm parallels you will find many of and many varieties of. There are some numbered, some not. Some in color, some in colors. I think this years Prizm parallels look even better with the textured backdrop.

Lots of color here and many are numbered to 99, 75.

Here is what you will find overall for base card parallels. Defining the parallels seems to be based on the corner where the word Prizm appears.
  • Black /1
  • Blue Wave /99
  • Gold /10
  • Green
  • Mojo /25
  • Orange /49
  • Orange Wave /25
  • Purple /75
  • Ruby Wave
  • Silver
  • Teal Wave /25
  • Fifth Anniversary /5
  • Starburst
Along with Prizms, there are inserts to find too. And within those inserts are even more parallels.
There is
  • Black /1
  • Blue Wave /99
  • Gold /10
  • Green
  • Mojo /25
  • Orange /49
  • Orange Wave /25
  • Purple /75
  • Ruby Wave
  • Silver
  • Teal Wave /25
Sky's The Limit. Catch these guys height! Wiggins is /49 as an orange.

Go Hard Or Go Home. Those guys who drive the lane.

All-Day dropping those shots. Explosion is my favorite insert set of the group. Fun design and look.

Now onto the autographs since this product I believe only offers relics in retail.

My first pull is of Malachi Richardson

My next is of Ivica Zobac. This is a Blue parallel /49. You can tell it's blue by the corner where the word Prizm has blue surrounding it.
You can find both rookie and veteran signatures. But, I assume it will be mostly rookie laden.
Overall, boxes are a bit high right now, but if they drop some in price it's an obvious buy. At least to me. I love the chrome appeal and the parallel chase. Even though I think Prizm is having a few too many parallels as some were very hard to tell what's what.

My box wasn't the best in terms of hits, but it's all apart of any hobby risk.

Stay tuned for an upcoming contest to win some of the cards from this break!!
