2017 Topps Collector Of The Month Nominees

Well, all I can say that this was a bit of a disappointment. I am actually quite shocked with the great prizes that were going to be available (two that were in the lot already had $60+ BV with more on the way in 2017) and the promoting I did for two weeks that ONLY 6 entered.

To enter it was simple. All I needed was a picture of your favorite Topps card or your Topps collection. It was up to you. You were even allowed to use props to help your photo gain votes by being creative. There was going to be 11 monthly winners and a big winner at the end. But, only 6 did this. 6. I am not sure if I will get over this for a little while.

Because of this sad low turnout, I mean it's not worth my time and energy for 6 people, I AM DISCONTINUING THIS CONTEST. THIS WILL NOT BE GOING FORWARD AT ALL. THERE WILL BE NO FEBRUARY OR COLLECTOR OF THE MONTH/YEAR CONTEST PROMO IN GENERAL.
I will have however, a two day vote, STARTING today, for the individuals that did enter. The winner will take home some cards that weren't claimed in past Topps contests. Those that entered can spread the word however they would like to get people to vote for them.

The poll for this will be located off to the right of the blog just above my Top 12 Wants(use web version if on a mobile device). It will run for the rest of today and and end on Monday. I will announce the winner sometime next week depending on when I get to come back on here to type.

Thanks to those that did enter and here are the ones you are looking to vote on.

YOU CAN VOTE FOR MORE THAN ONE. In case of Tie Breaker, I will be the deciding vote that will be done through a random of three times.

Good luck to the contestants!!

End Of The Year 2016

Time to sum up 2016 on Sport Card Collectors blog.

It was a year of transition as I started out the year with some new segments that just didn't hold very long. Mostly because of views I had to cancel them. What's the point of posting something that nobody has interest in??? (I can sometimes feel that way about my NY Giants posts but I am sorry, you are still going to get those)

It was also a year I struggled with buying cards whether it was singles, packs or boxes due to finances so I had to find other outlets to help add to my collection. Trading in 2016 became huge to me and some of the trades I pulled off on here were ginormous if you look back at my big ones with Project Pedro Blog and 90's Niche Football Card Blog. A HUGE thanks to them for being so generous and willing to pull off such trades. However, even the littlest ones were big helpers with knocking off some of my PC needs to. Especially in the Rodney Hampton department.

I was also glad to add to my trading circle this year that at first only had 5 in it. Now it's more than doubled in size. Thanks to those who came seeking me as an trading option and for being honest in working out a trade.

Here was my biggest trade pickup of the year in case you missed it or are new to this blog.

Not that my other pickups weren't big and appreciated too, but it's hard to match a KG Jr auto as top dog.

One of the biggest bright spots in 2016 was Topps coming on board with review boxes which helped me be able to continue the tradition of giveaways on Sport Card Collectors and gives you a look/insight at some of the products. I know many of you comment about my reviews and appreciating them. I also appreciate the support as well with you reading them.

2016 also provided Sport Card Collectors it's biggest views year yet. I expect yearly numbers to go up by the blogversary in March where I announce them. It makes me excited and find purpose to post everyday when I know people are coming to check it out.

So I guess you can say 2016 was on the up for my blog, but not for me personally with the financial end and health issues I had. Either way, I am hoping 2017 is a much better year all around and I wish the same to you no matter how your 2016 went.

Happy New Years Eve! Be safe! (you don't want to miss a post do you?) And God Bless!

A Homerun Of A Mail Day

When it comes to Ken Griffey Jr collectors, we are all family. We want to help each other out when we can and that's exactly what my newest Griffey collector @ryanwsawyer24 on Twitter did.

At first I was only expecting one card, we will get to that shortly. But instead, he set a good handful that turned all out to be new additions. This just shows how weak my Griffey collection is compared to others.

Some fun older Griffey's here. I really dig the Bazooka one. Gotta love the oddballs.

Speaking of oddballs, I had no idea that Tetley tea made any cards. This is a really cool die cut one.

And finally a card I have always wanted and tried to chase down, a 2000 Upper Deck Game Used Baseball card. Upper Deck always put out the best Griffey cards. I really like the subtle stitching on the card. Looks impressive.

With this game used baseball addition, I am just missing game used gloves as my last form of unique memorabilia card from my Griffey collection. I think that may be solved soon.

A huge thanks goes out to @ryanwsawyer24 for his generosity. I really appreciate it. If you are a Griffey fan or like random giveaways, I suggest you give him a follow. Really good dude.

Too Many Verlanders Mail Day Part 2

A couple of weeks ago, Too Many Verlanders blog ran a HUGE holiday Giveaway palooza and trading right before the holidays, yesterday you saw cards that I had claimed. Now, you will see a card and a figure too that doesn't fall flat in my collection.

In 1998, Topps came out with Action Flats. A card/figure combo that is all in one package and I think went for $3.99 at the time. There were roughly 12 to collect in each football and baseball. Baseball had quite a great lineup of players including my man Griffey, which I didn't have and I need the card to so it was a double win,

And football was headlined by the two top draft picks with Leaf and Manning. Luckily for me when I bought my only one I snagged the Manning over the Leaf.

A HUMONGOUS thanks goes out to Too Many Verlanders for the cards. If you haven't checked out his blogs (he runs Too Many Manninghams as well), I suggest you do. I appreciate your generosity and I always find a way to give back to the giver :)

Too Many Verlanders Mail Day Part 1

A couple of weeks ago, Too Many Verlanders blog ran a HUGE holiday Giveaway palooza and trading right before the holidays. He had many great up items up for grabs including lots of 90's goodness, team lots, figures and a stack of uncut SI For Kids Cards sheets I had wanted and just missed out on pushing publish for my comment that would have gone towards that PC.

But, I was able to snag my Giants. I feel like I am the only blogger out of 300+ who collects them which isn't a bad thing. That means I get to trade and claim them more often.

Here was the lot that I claimed. A goo stack of old and new Giants including a pretty slick LT die-cut from Contenders.

On top of his already generous Giants lot, he helped me with some of my 2015 Score set needs. This is all that remains, HERE.

Threw in a free unopened pack of '09 Topps baseball Series 2

Which I pulled a new Soriano for that PC

And on top of that, he tossed in three Giants hits that he didn't need for his Manningham collection. This Spx auto rookie of him is now my new favorite Manningham card. Boy do I miss UD football cards.

Another Manningham...

And finally a new Shockey. Great looking card and Jeremy will always be one of my favorites. His aggressive play made him one of the biggest receiving threats the Giants ever had, til they drafted Odell. I am not sure anyone will ever top him.

This is just part 1 of my gernours mail day from Too Many Verlanders. A much smaller, but just as important one posting tomorrow!

Update On Sorting

This has been by far the most challenging and biggest sorting project of my collecting career. Trying to take 23 years of collecting like this by number, brand and year...

And turning it into this, by team.

It's been a long grueling sorting project. But, I know in the end, I will feel so much better and have it much more sorted than it was. This is just the base cards. I haven't touched the inserts and rookies yet.
I expect this to possibly take most of 2017 to with so much left to sort and with my time of doing so with only 1 hour available every few days.

What's the biggest sorting project you have ever tackled?

The Season Of Giving

The hobby is full of giving people and one of them that really stands out is @JG24ever on Twitter.

Last week I showed you how he helped me narrow down my needs for my 2014 Flair Football master set, well, he struck again buying me this graded /40 Rueben Randle Rookie Inscriptions autograph on Twitter and having it sent to me. This card marks another new Randle in my collection and my first graded autograph of him.

I was once again left speechless (except the inner excitement of getting the card) by his generosity when he tagged me saying the card was mine. It's not only to me though, he spreads the #HobbyLove to other collectors too. I hope everyone takes note of this when it comes to nominating collectors for their generosity.

A big thanks goes out to @JG24ever for this awesome card and for his generosity. I strongly suggest you follow him on Twitter and I strongly suggest to myself that I need to do some digging to give back to him as well :)

Grady's Box Of Mystery!

I posted last week the first part of my mail day from Sport Card Collector reader Grady M of the non sport card items. Today, I am showing just a very small window of a sneak peek of the sports cards I was sent.

In this big box was tons and tons and tons of cards.

There were multiple sports, some hits but mainly inserts. Sweet, sweet inserts. Tons of shiny too.

Stay tuned for more to come from this box as I will break down the main contents. I don't think I will have time to show it all, but I will show as much as I can.

Merry Christmas 2016!!

Just wanted to come on today and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday.

I hope you have a blessed and great time with family, friends and pets today. Also remember and think of those serving our country who may not be able to be home with family and friends.

If you have a minute, let me know in comments what you are hoping to find wrapped under the tree or what did you find...

Jaybarkerfan's Holiday Tradeathon Mail Day

Wes over at Jaybarkerfan's Junk recently held a tradeathon where he posted up 5-10 cards daily and you really had to make sure you got there in time to snag what you wanted. The challenge of it was you could only claim up to 5 items and it went for two weeks. Try your patience and gambling with that!!

I had claimed three items up until the last day thinking that the best for last scenario would come into play, which I was right, but I didn't quite get there in time on the last day as a couple of pretty cool things jumped on the final post (I missed out on claiming a few others cause I gambled and waited) but I did manage to still snag some cool stuff.

Up first, those sweet 90's items. A Jerry Rice acetate insert, a Troy Aikman Pinnacle Mint coin (always love these), a sweet looking Joey Galloway from Zenith and a freebie pack that he tossed in.

Then some sweet Dan Marino inserts, yes once again from the 90's. The Run And Gun has a player on the other side and is numbered.

Up next, a Griffey that is bolony. No, really. It's an Oscar Mayer 1994 Superstar Round-Up bolony disk. I hadn't seen these before. Cool addition. Gotta snag the oddballs when you can. I am not sure what Griffey this makes me as I need to figure out some new numbers once my checklist is done.

Finally, a card I snagged on Day 1. A oversized 25/25 eBay 1/1 Rueben Randle patch from Inception. The card looks great, all but the 00 on the jersey. That always bothers me.

A pretty solid mail day in my opinion. Covered many PC areas. A big thanks goes out to Wes and I hope you like what I sent in return along with the mini boom pack in the second package.

No Sport Card Mail Day

As you have seen many, many times before on here, Sport Card Collectors reader Grady M has sent me some amazing mail days and this time is no different. Well, it's a bit different. This time there was no cards (two days later those arrived so stay tuned for that). This time were some cool collectible items I plan on displaying.

Up first, a Sprite Welcome Home LeBron sign. Pretty cool. Will put it with my poster in the man cave. Also, a Hall Of Fame newspaper insert.

Up next, a Dale Jr Hero Card. Great pic! I plan on putting it with my other hero cards.

Up next, some really cool items. With Grady living where he does and being a Cowboys fan, he went to the Cowboys/Browns game and got me the game day poster from that but even cooler his kids went to the Giants/Browns game a few weeks later and got me two copies of that one....

Along with the tickets from the game. I think these will look great displayed with the rest of my Giants stuff despite a Brown being on the ticket.

A huge thanks goes out to Grady and his kids for their generosity. This is only the beginning as I got cards a few days later from a trade we did along with plenty of fun bonuses. Stay tuned for that long, long series of posts!

Grand Prizes For The SCC/Topps Collector Of The Year

This is by far not everything that will be in this lot, but here is a scratch of the surface. (the early prizes in this contest are prizes I added at the end of the year along with ones that were never claimed)

There are others I can't remember along with some numbered and regular inserts too!

/250

2/3

Blank Back parallel of this guy:

Garrett Richards 2016 Tribute Autograph (will update with pic)

PLUS MUCH MUCH MORE WILL BE ADDED IN 2017!!!

I will update this and re-post it every few months to try and lure you in to enter this. All I can say is that the GRAND PRIZE winner will be very happy.

There are smaller monthly prizes to win as well.

Currently only TWO people are in for January. Yes, TWO. I am expecting at least 20 entries. AT THE VERY LEAST. If this doesn't pick up or catch on with this post, I will nullify the contest completely and go back to by-review giveaways. Especially if I only get two entries and it would be one month and done.

Here are the details on how to enter to win these and monthly prizes. You would be crazy not to enter!!

YOU ONLY HAVE 8 DAYS TO DO SO TOO!

Christmas Set Help With Flair

If you have read my blog before, you would have read how many times I have mentioned @JGfan24ever name on here from Twitter. You would also know he is a pretty good dude.

This time that good dude had busted some boxes of 2014 Flair Football from his Black Friday purchases and I inquired about if he had any I could use for my set. He checked and then said DM my address.

So these arrived last week taking a huge chunk of needs from Flair 2014 including finally finishing up my Row 2 set. You can find the rest of my needs, HERE.

And adding the one Beckham card I didn't have from the set. Looks pretty cool too.

And if he hadn't already done enough, he sent this along as the Christmas gift. Such a great guy.

A big thanks goes out to @JFfan24ever on this mail day to help me towards my set and for the extra gift. I am beyond blessed to know ya. It was definitely some hobby love you have shown me!

Speaking of hobby love, who has shown you some recently and what did you get?

Hook 'Em Ross

I am a bit behind on some posts but I can't let some just slip under the rug. Like this sweet contest win I got over at Sports Card Info blog.

I won this 2007 Press Pass Legends All Conference Red Ink Auto #’ed/285 of former Giants CB, Aaron Ross. Ross was Drafted 20th overall in the 2007 draft and was on the Super Bowl winning 42 and 46 teams.

After winning the Super Bowl with the Giants in 46, he signed a decent contract with the Jaguars but his career never really got very far after leaving NY. Injuries took a toll.

But, I am excited to add my first Ross auto to the Giants PC. Especially since he was there during the two Super Bowl runs.

A big thanks goes out to Sports Card Info on the contest win mail day and if you haven't checked him out yet, please do so. Weekly contest, reviews and other fun segments.

Step Back, I Ripped One

Yesterday, I got a Holiday Blasted by Baseball Card Breakdown in my mail box. It was awesome to say the least.

I took the pics of his Holiday Blast on my table with the colorful Christmas table cloth in the background to give it that Christmas feel. I also didn't crop them well on purpose so it shines the holiday spirit through.

Up first, some new Yanks including a custom, something shiny and a Godzilla I didn't have. Also included in this group is a new David Wilson rookie. I believe Strata had two designs for rookies that year and this is the version I still needed.

Next group, one of my favorite pics in the Odell "The Catch" done in my favorite product, Chrome. A salsa dancing x-factor in Cruz, an Andre Brown rookie and an Eli Triple Threads that's numbered.

Then onto a couple Giants hits that I didn't have. New Manningham and new DJ Hall autograph. I think I only have one other of his. Both are rookies.

And finally, my first rip card. I haven't ever pulled one or bought one even though I have always wanted to. It actually may be on my hobby bucket list.

I haven't decided whether I would ever rip one if I got one, probably not as that would totally dig into my hobby OCD and the mystery can be fun, but I it would be fun to at least have one.

I did however get to have an opportunity to rip a custom rip card thanks to Gavin. Even though that was tough to do in more than one way with that hobby OCD and the fact that he sealed these up really well.

But, I did get into it so let's take a look:

Here is the front:

Here is the back /25 as he sent out 25 packages. I have seen some of the others pulls from within so I knew it had to be good.

(inserted here was a pic of the ripped contents but my blog decided it didn't want to upload it)

And I was right.  A custom mini magnet of the man, the legend, KGJr!

A big thanks goes out Gavin for this sweet mail day and for my first fun rip experience. You definitely have one of the most creative minds in the blogosphere.

I have begun setting some stuff aside for you down the road. You just never know when I will mail it :)

SI For Kids Cards December 2016

Here is my second installment of this series.

I have been collecting SI For Kids cards for year and thought I would share them with you and help you decide if you should pick up the latest issue of SI For Kids for yourself.

This months, we have a bit weaker of an issue with Kris Bryant being the headliner here, but I think owning cards from these other sports including golf that doesn't have cards on the market right now is huge. I still have my rookies from these guys you can see here, (Hottest Golf Cards Right Now)

Thoughts on this months cards are welcomed below.
