You have randomized this list 7 times.

Winners, Richard, Zazzy Q, Daniel Wilson and JT Woodworth please email with your address and the subject line, Arrow. I will try to get these out ASAP. You will have seven days from today to claim your prize,  after that, it becomes unclaimed for a future contest.

As for the prizes,
1 of you will receive a hit from the product
3 of you will receive some inserts.

The envelopes I put the prizes in are already prepacked with a letter A on the back to signify what the giveaway is. As for the contents, I don't know nor do I remember with all of the stuff I mail out lol. So that means all envelopes will be mailed out at random and I would be grateful if you could post your winnings and tag Cryptozoic as well.

Thanks to everyone that entered and hopefully I can continue to do this with Cryptozoic. Please make sure to thank them as well.

As for a heads up, the Penny Dreadful contest is still live. Find it on the homepage of this blog.

The Way It's Always Been

I told you guys awhile back how I got my father back into collecting after a 10 year hiatus, well the other night he texted me about a blaster box of Prestige he had busted and was wondering how to tell the Sp's and what the book values were for certain cards he pulled. As always, I obliged and gave him the info he needed. His response to my answers were of excitement.

Your first thoughts I assume, tell us what cards he texted about? Were they huge pulls? An auto?

My response to you would be, nah. Not even close to being a big hit. To us however, it was. What was it? A simple 2015 Panini Prestige Jameis Winston base rookie card.

Go ahead, you can start laughing.

The hobby has definitely shifted in the last ten years with everything being hit based but to hear my father's joyful noise about a simple base card rookie with a book value of $6 was music to my ears. I love hearing that despite the 10 year hiatus and the ever changing hobby that he still stuck with his roots. One that I am still grounded in myself.

The way we evaluate value of something is much different than how others might.
  1. Rookie cards to us, are the top dog. Doesn't matter if it's autographed, jersey, or just a plain base card. It ranks high in our collection.
  2. Secondly, inserts still matter. Especially if they are numbered or if they contain a top player or rookie
  3. Sets still hold a place. Both of us still collect, buy and trade for sets we like.
  4. Key players for our PC's matter and that includes base cards.
  5. We get excited over a $5 card. Yes, we don't need to land that $600 autograph. If you pay $2.50 for a pack and pull a $5  card it's a huge win to us.
I would call us simple collectors. We enjoy the pleasure just of collecting. Neither of us buy then sell. We collect. We invest time, money and fun into collecting.

This is just the way it has always been and probably will always be.

How do you guys collect?

Going Back To The Hamptons

As the title states, I am going back to the Hamptons....Rodney Hamptons that is.

With the help of some trades and an early eBay gift card Christmas present from my sister-in-law, I have been nailing down some Hamptons and crossing them off my list.

Overall there are 781 Rodney Hampton cards. As I type this, I have hit the 233 mark which is 29.83% of his cards. This is much higher than my Ken Griffey Jr search which is more about 4.68%. Not that I have given up on Ken, but he has so many cards, more everyday and each one costs twice as much as Rodney's.

So for now, my main search is for Hamptons.

Here is my current updated checklist of what I do and do note have. What I do have is highlighted.

I am pretty happy where I stand right now. Hopefully I can keep this momentum and strive to get them all. Well, at least most ;)
When you guys PC someone, what is your ultimate goal? All of their cards? Some? Just the hits?

Grady Strikes Again! Mail Day Part : Blinded By Shinyness!

I don't really have much to say about this portion. So, unlike most of my posts, I will let the galleries themselves do the talking. These are shiny objects from Topps, Topps Chrome, Prizm, Bowman, and Upper Deck.

Alright, maybe just a few words. I tried to make the top row like Christmas lights. Ran out of greens for the bottom but at least the Pete Rose is glowing!

This was my first gander at Topps Chrome football this year. I hadn't had the money in time to pick some up.
Bottom has two wicked sweet Prizm parallels!

This looks cool. Not sure how other bloggers get these to move to show the colors, but these are really sharp in person.

Never seen these before. Absolutely stunning. Topps needs to do more of these in flagship to spice it up a bit.
Well, that was it.
A big thanks goes out to Grady M for another stunning mail day loaded with PC goodies. I have got to finish getting his put together then mailed.

As always, comments on this mail day or past mail days this week are always welcomed!

Out Of Curiosity.....

Out of curiosity or out of reality, I am wondering what name you guys would choose for this blog. So the other day I put up a post and got back some great responses. So I took the responses along with some names I came up with and created a poll on the right hand of the blog. If you are using a mobile device you will need to view the blog in web version to see it.

So please take a quick second out, vote for your favorite. By the way, you can vote for MORE THAN ONE if you wanna. I am not sure what I will do with this information once it's voted on, but I may or may not use it. At most I will have it in the back of my mind and will also post the results on here in January when the voting comes to an end.

There were definitely some great blog names on that list that caught my attention and thanks to those of you who suggested some.

Remember, RIGHT SIDE of the blog, takes just a second. THANKS!

Grady Strikes Again! Mail Day Part 4:BEST OF THE REST!

Here were some odds and ends. These didn't have enough of one or the other to warrant a seperate post on so I combined them into one. There are a few cards missing such as Star Wars and a Wrestling one, but that's because the pictures got deleted by mistake. But wanted to at least take note on those.

Up first, some NASCAR cards. I still miss Press Press.

800 time champion, Jimmy Johnson!

Danica racing her way onto my blog.

Hockey inserts. Who doesn't like the Canvas'?

Score Golds...

More Score golds and some UD.

Patrik Elias /49

And to close out this portion, three new Griffey's for my PC! Been a long time since I added to that PC.

I like this one!
Sadly, only one more part left to this mail day. But it's a doozy. If you like things that shine, you won't wanna miss the finale!

Grady Strikes Again! Mail Day Part 3: NFL Inserts

I am still rolling on with this mail day. We are taking a gander today at the NFL inserts I got in the package.

A little mix of everything here.

Yeah, I didn't have enough rookies to do a solo post on, so I included them here. A cool Cam Newton insert included here too.

Some of my favorite inserts here. I am a fan of the framed inserts in baseball, so when Panini added these to Gridiron Kings. They look great too. These are the red bordered.

Legends and rookies framed.

And there was just something about this photo that caught my eye. Too bad for the Jags that he got injured so fast and didn't get to hit the field. Will be interesting to see what he brings to them next year.
Another post down, two more to go. If you haven't realized this yet, I save the shiny goodness for last. Tomorrow's post will be the best of the rest!

What Would You Name This Blog?

Since the beginning of my blogging, I have not liked the name of my blog. Yes, that is sad to say knowing that I will be going into a fourth year of having it.

I have considered a name change a few times but fear it would mess up readership. One, I am not sure if the name change would throw readers off including those who follow me on Twitter and Facebook. Two, I am not sure if the name change affects my link in all of the places it's posted. Three, some of my Google hits is just from Sport Card Collectors name. So I keep on with it.

What don't I like about it? Well, for one, it's kinda boring. Just like with 90's inserts, I like excitement. Shine! Two, it's plural. I am one person. But, my thinking at the time was well aren't we all sport card collectors and I just need a name don't care. Now I do.

Some of the things I have considered for a name change was Cardboard Paradise or the the name of one of my other blogs, The Card Bin. Just something creative like rest of the bloggers that fits my theme.

As I close in on 450,000 views tonight, the thought continues to pop into my head. Not sure if I will ever change the name, but it is always sitting on my mind when I come on here.

So my question to you guys, for new and returning readers, you know what I post about, what would you name this blog? (who knows maybe I will use your name)

For bloggers, I am giving you the same question as above and throwing a bonus out there. Have you ever considered a name change?

Would love to read the feedback on this!

Grady Strikes Again! Mail Day Part 2: MLB Inserts

I love finding these in my packages from Grady. Two of three are new but I really need "Fluffy" still.

Sorry for the sideways picture, new phone. But lot's of Topps as you can see.

Chipper, Jackie Robinson lead the way among other big names.

More Topps inserts...I should look into putting some sets together.
And again...

And even some more.

You gotta dig the Crown Royale die cuts. Great looking cards.

And to end, a Frank Robinson from Cooperstown.
Another nice solid baseball insert overload mail day. Hopefully I can find the time to put together some insert sets to see if I have them all. That would be added to one of a million jobs I have to do in my collection.
More of this big mail day coming up tomorrow!

Grady Strikes Again! Mail Day Part 1: NY, NY

SCC reader Grady M has been known to send some impressive packages. This one was no different as you will see.

I mean look at it from a distance. This is what I got to search through after opening up the box.

As always with his mail days, there is WAY TOO MUCH to put into one post. So I split it up. This time you are looking at a 5-part series that will take this week to post. So yes, no Random Card On My Desk to view this week.

Let's get on with the mail day.

Up first, a pouring of NY Rangers cards.

Then onto some Yankees. Quite a few of them.

Some highlights of the group. Shiny refractors!

Derek. Can't ever complain about finding him. This one is also a new one for the PC.

Then finally, some NY Giants. This team has been so up an down. They play the first half of games like a Super Bowl team and play the second half like the Browns. Just can't figure out why.

Oooooooooooooooooooodellllllll! Numbered Eli too!

And most importantly, a card showcasing "The Catch." Won't complain about that.
This is just a scratch on the surface of what's to come. Next post, tomorrow!
