Reminiscing 90's:1992 Mattell Ren&Stimpy, Stimpy Rude Tootin

Key notes for November 7th 1992:
November 7th 1992 was a Saturday
George H.W.Bush was President
Most Popular Movie released in November of 1992 was The Bodyguard (good movie by the way)
Most Popular Book around this time was The Tale Of The Body Thief by Anne Rice.
Billboard Hot 100 number-one single on November 7th 1992 was End Of The Road by Boyz II Men (great song)
SPORTS 1st NBA game at America West Arena and it was between the Phoenix Suns and L.A.Clippers

I loved watching the Ren&Stimpy show in the 90's. It was sort of the Spongebob of today. The crazy antics of two animals, a cat and a Chihuahua were put on display and my mind got to rot everyday. Stimpy was always my favorite because he wasn't always quite there. Sort of a doofus.

I was glad to have found this pretty solid piece, a 1992 Ren&Stimpy rude toot Stimpy stuffed for a quarter at a yard sale. The tooting doesn't work anymore but you can still hear the air when you press on it.

Speaking of doofus', here were a few people who made stupid decisions I could think of from the 90's. Cheaters, liars, trouble makers. Bill wasn't so much of one then, but just because I had his 90's rookie I thought I would throw him in here too. Also for Bill, it may also because he is who he is and coaches who he coaches. All of which I have made known I don't like.

Some cool cards here...

A-roid and Big Macfullofroids. These cards however make me miss Upper Deck even more and especially Collectors Choice. It was such a fun product.

Despite my negativity towards these players/coach, you have still gotta enjoy the cards and pay attention to what the people on the cards accomplished on the field whether their methods were truthful or not.

Who is one of your "Doofus' of the 90's? Did you watch Ren&Stimpy?

REVIEW:2015 Panini Prizm Collegiate Draft Picks

Panini's second CLC release comes in the form of another Panini favorite of mine, Prizm. This is my second break and review of it. I don't mind breaking this twice that's for sure!

How did this round of Draft Picks stack up against my first break, well, you know what to do....READ ON!

In every box of 2015 Prizm Draft Picks football, you will find 12 packs per box with 5 cards per pack. You will also find two autographs, 24 Draft Picks, four Prizms, one Stained Glass insert and three additional inserts.A nice layout without being overdone as finding the Prizm parallels and inserts may help drive up their values a bit. Box prices are nice running mostly around $40 a box.

The design is simple. Chromed cards with a player in the forefront all done in their college uni's. There are 250 cards in the base set with 100 of those being veterans.....

and 150 of them being rookies/draft picks such as this Gurley. He was actually the top find in my box with only a couple rookies per pack and 24/150 per box.

My box was pretty good in terms of getting Prizm parallels. I got 6 total. You can look for the following lineup of Prizms:
  • Prizms
  • Red Power Prizms
  • Camo Prizms #/199
  • Purple Flash Prizms #/99
  • Blue Prizms #/75
  • Tie-Dyed Prizms #/49
  • Red, White and Blue Mojo Prizms #/25
  • Gold Prizms #/10
  • Green Prizms #/5
  • Orange Prizms #/5
  • Black Finite Prizms 1/1
I found 5 regular Prizms and one Camo in my box. One of my regular Prizms is posted below with the other inserts.

Sorry about this picture being sideways, my camera phone wasn't cooperating.

The other inserts just look cool! They are well designed and the Prizm shine makes them look even more outstanding. However, I would have liked to have seen these as regular cards first and have a Prizm parallel to. Not just straight up Prizms for all. Of course that may be the 90's collector in me coming out as well. My favorite design of them all was the Stained Glass insert. These are stunning and even more so in person.

Once again, my phone wanted it like this...

Seems the autographed cards in Prizm are Prizms. Once again, my box was weak with my autographs but this break was a tad better with the Dorsett find.

This is the first I have seen of Dorsett's autograph up close. I really like his signature.
My box was weak, but with some very tough parallel pulls to be had and a nice price point, I can't see why you wouldn't bust one of these just for fun. You never know what rare parallel or what autograph could be within.

REVIEW:2015 Panini Playbook Football

Playbook makes its return for another year this time with one extra card per box. Last years gave you two, this years three.

Those three cards should be one booklet base, one booklet autograph or memorabilia card and one extra autograph or memorabilia card. Boxes will run you about $90.

The first card I found in my box was a penny sleeved numbered base card booklet. This is numbered to 299. Mine was of the Raiders Derek Carr (guy is a beast) and former NYG Justin Tuck who I wished would come back to the Giants the way their pass rush has been.

Inside of the booklet. Pretty solid look to them. Very think card stock however.
Next card in my break was a Mammoth patch card of Kevin White numbered to 50. I like the layout and design of these. Everything balances out nicely.

My Playbook was Jamison Crowder. Here is what the outside looks like.

The inside. I like the portrait layout over the landscape. Overall, not a strong box by any stretch. $90 feels a bit high as well but that's the normal price for Playbook usually. I miss when the product used to have 4 hits per box. Those days helped make it feel more valuable.

This product will not be for everyone. The design is great for the product as a whole but price-point is tough at $90 for two hits. In my opinion, if you are not a thrill seeker, you will find buying into a box break a better deal than busting it yourself.

Thoughts on the break are always welcomed.

CONTEST ALERT!!!! Player Of The Day Contest FINALE! All About The Kids WINNING!

About a month ago, I told you about a Victor Cruz Super Bowl 46 pylon card that I got as a gift from another blogger. This time I picked one of them up.

It seems these pylon cards are a tough find as everyone I found on eBay had a $15 or up BIN price. Of course being a stingy collector, I look for deals. That's when I saw Hakeem Nicks listed for a .99 auction. I figured I wouldn't get it, but I took the chance anyways. Well, to my surprise, and a late night of watching and bidding on the item, I battled my way to a $6 victory. Much less than the $15 BIN for the others.

The card has a different design than my previous one because they were two different promo cards from Panini. But that didn't matter to me, it was a cool piece from a Super Bowl winning Giants team.

Here are my two pylon cards together.
I definitely wouldn't mind chasing down the others. I would really like to land the Eli Manning one. But, with only one listed on eBay for $20, this smart shopper will wait it out til I can find another steal like I did here.

Breakin Wax:2015 Leaf Clear Football

Leaf cards have always intrigued me. It's not usually a brand I take a shot on due to the fact they are unlicensed. But, something told me just to give a box a try even though there were other products I wanted much more. Glad I listened.

In every box of 2015 Leaf Clear football, you will find 5 acetate autographed cards. Another sign of a product I don't usually try because to me, the more cards, the better. Each of the cards come already sleeved and boxes will run you slightly under $90.

Now time to roll out the hits! Sorry for the not so great pics. My camera didn't appreciate the acetate as much as I did.

Stefon Diggs

Bryce Petty

Todd Gurley!!!!! Woo hoo!! Best pull of 2015 so far!

Josh Harper Clear Potential insert

And finally a Malcolm Brown State Pride silver parallel
Overall, I am impressed. This was a great break and I felt there was some good value in here. I am not sure if every box is like this but I liked how I did. Gurley and Petty's BV alone almost paid for the box and in my mind did. This may tempt me to try another Leaf product in the future.

WINNER Of The World Series Contest!

First, I must say congrats to this years World Series winners the Kansas City Royals! I must admit after the Yankees lost, this was the team I wanted to win. Of course that increased after I found out their opponent was the Mets ;)

In the end, we had two players out of the four that were left in our World Series contest that hit a Home Run. So it came down to these two......

The bowl cut kid March 22, 2015 at 3:20 PM. Alex Gordon

And the winner if their was a tie was going to be decided by who had the player on the winning team and since the Royals won, so didn't The bowl cut kid.

Breakin Wax: 2015 Upper Deck Industry Summit Box

I think some of the best and unique cards from companies are the ones that come from their promotions. You know Father's Day, The National, Black Friday, NHCD, and so on and so forth. Another one of those promotions is Upper Deck's BLACK BOX that you get at the Industry Summit. These are only available to those who are at the show, but you can also find some listed online that shop owners may list to sell and Upper Deck also gave a few away to Volunteer Alliance members and on their blog.

One of the fun things about this Black Box is the amazing finds that could be inside. It could be the best two cards you ever get! You can find autographs from all the top names from MJ to LeBron to Wayne Gretzky and even to Tiger Woods. Sometimes these guys are even all on the same card. BAM! And they are all low numbered which makes them a tough find.

My black box wasn't as exciting as some that I saw, but still a couple pretty cool cards and autographs from players I didn't have. Let's see who I got...

My first autograph from the box was this Steve Carlton. I must note immediately, UPPER DECK NAILED AN AWESOME DESIGN WITH THESE!!! Nothing says Las Vegas, where the Summit is held, more than playing cards.

Love how they did the back of the card as well.

My second and final autograph from the box was the legendary Bill Walton.

Overall, I really like the design and I got two decent autographs for my PC. Would definitely be something I would like to open again with the autograph lineup. Maybe I will keep my eye out for a decent priced eBay listing!

Kids Photo's In Player Of The Day Kids Promo!

Kids+The Hobby is a wonderful thing. We have all got to do our part to get kids interested in this great hobby in a technology age or the hobby may fade some day. Yes, they do make digital cards, but I think everyone knows my opinion on those.

So thanks to those parents/cousins/uncles/aunts/grandma/grandpas/friends and so on that take a minute out to show the fun of the hobby with the kids by submitting these photos.

And with every picture a winner, congrats to all that enter!

Speaking of enter, you can do that HERE. And the prize list you can find HERE.
