CONTEST!! World Series Predictor!

It's almost that time of year. The smell of freshly cut grass. The crack of a bat. Diving catches and one team winning a trophy. Yup, you guess it, it's almost time for baseball!

A few years ago, I ran a World Series contest where I had the people who entered draft a team they thought would win and at the end of the World Series the person who picked the winning team would score a prize lot. I have decided to bring back something very similar to that contest but switched up how to enter.

First off, let me give you the run down on the prizes!

We kick it off with 1991 Leaf Gold Rookies including Mo Vaughn, Ryan Klesko and Mike Mussina

A few 90's inserts and a cool Ted Williams insert from 2015 Topps baseball

If you are like me, you like shiny things. Well, here are some!

I already have this card, but, it was still hard to let go but I did anyways. Someone will enjoy it as much as I do.

And a cool Victor Martinez jersey card. I call it cool because to the naked eye, my pic doesn't show the small tear in the jersey. That's pretty cool to me!

And these unopened packs.

And finally, there will be a nice BCW SUPPLIES prize pack added as well. Here it is now updated!

Now onto how to enter for ONE person to win ALL of the prizes listed above!

  1. MUST be a U.S. RESIDENT or have an address in the U.S. I can ship the prize to enter! Sorry about this but shipping costs are crazy and I am far from being rich lol.
  2. Pick out one MLB hitter from any team. Once a player is selected, you cannot choose that player again. It will be a first come, first serve type of deal.
  3. If the player you choose ends up in the World Series, you will be in the running for the prizes above. A new contest will begin when the World Series begins. If your player doesn't make it to the World Series, then you are eliminated. If, for some reason none of the players make it to the World Series, I will random all entrants for the prize.
  4. Remember to try and not pick a bench player just to make it to the World Series. I may use the player you have chosen in the World Series portion of the contest.
  5. Deadline to enter is April 5th 2015 right before the Opening Day game.
Good luck to all that enter. This should be a challenging contest to pick players for because you just never know which teams will make it.

PS: I would like to ask bloggers to share this contest on their blogs and for everyone to RT on Twitter and Share on Facebook.

Rey Ordonez...You Mean More Than You Think (eBay mail day)

I have one. YESSSSSSSSSSSS, I have an UD Game Jersey card from the 90's. The card I was able to acquire on eBay isn't the 1996 one I have been wanting forever, but its the 1997 edition and is still one tremendous PC card add.

In 1996, Upper Deck released the first-ever jersey cards into the market with its 1996 Upper Deck football product. In 1997, Upper Deck's baseball product was notable for having the first game-used cards in a mainstream baseball product. So even though this card I picked up wasn't the first overall jersey card like I had wanted, it still was the first overall baseball jersey card.So I guess that goes into consideration for being what I was looking for.

Without further ado, here is the card I picked up on eBay for a reasonable $10. I say reasonable because these cards are hard to find due to the fact they were rare hits falling at 1:800 packs. There is also only three player cards available in the set as well.

I like the fact that it even has a stripe. This kinda card isn't about the player on the card as much as it is about the card itself. Just. Plain. Beautiful.

Back of the card. I think it's pretty awesome the way that UD worded everything and the fact that it's a GAME WORN jersey. Those are seemingly becoming rarer in our market today with so many manufactured and player worn relics.
I liked the card when I bought it, but upon receiving it, I loved it. This is a piece of cardboard history and the start of something that changed the baseball card industry forever. I wouldn't mind trying for the set but with the Griffey being so EXPENSIVE, I know that dream will never come true.

However, my other dream of possibly owning a 1996 UD Game Jersey card, still lives on.

Breakin Wax:2014 Topps Fire Football Blister Box

Alright, enough with the singing even though I am sure you have it stuck in your head just like I do.

In a previous article, I wrote about how I picked up some Giants from the product in a trade and how I wanted more of it. Well, here I go. I busted a blister box of it.

In each blister box of 2014 Topps Fire football, there are 72 cards. There is a good mix of rookies, inserts and base.

The base cards are artsy. The backgrounds are from an apparent volcano explosion. I am not usually an artsy base card kinda guy, but something about these have eye appeal.

Here were my rookies from the box. Pretty much landed every GOOD rookie there was including my man Odell.

Foil parallels. These are even cooler than the base. I would have loved to seen the entire base set done like these.

More inserts. I didn't see the numbered ones (bottom cards) the first time around. They were noticed when I was taking pics.

Johnny is on fire in molten lava! May be the only time he is on fire. Yup, I took a shot at him.
Overall, a good break. Numbered inserts, rookie loaded, and other PC cards makes this a good break for me and one I see no reason to complain about.

Breakin Wax: 2015 Topps Baseball Series 1 Blister Box (Sp find)

FINALLY! It's in hand!!

Well after its release, I got my hands onto some 2015 Topps baseball. I had wanted to give a blaster a try, but funds fell short, maybe next time, but I did get to open the blister pack and I at least got a taste of what Topps has to offer in 2015.

Each blister of Topps cards comes with one pack of cards. Each pack is loaded with 72 cards in which there is a decent balance of base, rookies and inserts to find. There are also chances at randomly inserted autographs and memorabilia cards, but I haven't ever seen any pulled from the. Each blister is roughly$10. This blister is also a Target exclusive one and comes with ONE Jackie Robinson Story Card.

I really dig this years photography and base card design. This may be the best I have seen in years.

Back of the card

Subsets in Series 1. Not bad looking. I know many have complained about the Future Stars part with the writing not being very bold, but it doesn't bother me.

My rookie card finds including one for the Yankees PC and top Cub Baez.

I was pretty excited to had pulled a photo variation. Especially of Astros upcoming star Springer.

My insert pulls. New Ruth for the PC.

And here is my Jackie Robinson story card. Nicely designed in my opinion.
Overall, not a bad break for $10. My favorite find other than the Jeter base card was the Sp.

I really hope to try a blaster break next. If I do, it will be posted right on the blog that way I can compare the two.

90's Flashback:1994 Pinnacle Museum Collection Javy Lopez

The 90's not only provided some sweet looking inserts, but they also provided some sweet looking parallels. One of my favorite parallels was called Museum Collection. These parallels were created with the dufex technology and have a smooth card surface with a "starburst" appeal.

I tried my best to capture it's beauty with my camera and a light on.

PC Masterpiece:1994 Upper Deck Home Field Advantage Ken Griffey Jr.

Home Field Advantage easily sums up this picture. Griffey knew the walls of the Kingdome better than anyone.

I really like this card because of the angle of this shot. Griffey was simply an amazing Center fielder before he went to Cincy and Upper Deck captured that a bit here as Griffey is chasing down a long fly ball. This card serves as a reminder about how great Upper Deck MLB cards were.
