Set Collectors Still Live! (at least I do) PT 1 of 2

Hi, I like to sport card blog and collect sports card. I also have something else to admit, I like to set collect.

Set collecting seems like a thing of the past to most. Some may not even have heard of such a thing in the new generation of collectors. But, I still know what it is. I spend countless hours rummaging through my finds and buys and try my best to complete the set. Some are more fun to try and complete than others, but I still have fun sorting it all out in hopes I have pulled off a set.

This week, I was sorting through about 600 2014 Score base cards to try and put a set together. As you can see, I am very precise on how I do this. I sort them it into piles of 100's, 200's, 300's (or more if the product is bigger). Those then get broken down into piles of 10's, 20's, 30's and so on for every big pile of 100's. I then sort them by number tossing the doubles to the side.

Here was the aftermath after an hour of putting these by number. On the right, is my set so far and on my left is a hefty load of doubles.
After sorting these, I went back through my "so far" set pile and found some numbers I was missing and wrote them down. I almost have the set except roughly twenty cards. I may have to go and search Jammin JDcards who just listed a bunch of singles for my missing numbers.

So even though I don't see much set collecting around anymore, I wanted to let you all know that it still does exist. Just look above at my pictures. WE SET COLLECTORS ARE ALIVE! And I think we always will be, though far and few in-between, as long as companies continue to produce base sets worth collecting.

Part 2 of this series, the finale of it, I will show you my favorite all-time set I put together. Stay tuned!

90's Rip Party: 1995 Score Summitt Football Box

When I wanted to go back in time to do a really fun rip, 1995 stuck out in my mind. Well, it was the year that I REALLY started collecting. It was also the year that a lot of fun products were coming out and when I was thinking about it, one product that I had always wanted to bust a full box of but couldn't before was 1995 Score Summitt Football.

There was a lot of great looking cards in this product starting out from the base cards to the parallels and all the way to the inserts. So I went eBay shopping for one and found an incredible deal on it and snatched it up.

In a box of 1995 Score Summitt football you get 24 packs per box and 7 cards per pack.

Here are the base cards. They are thicker than usual base cards with an elegant design. I especially dig the how the name is displayed and the team helmet done is a bronze foil.

The two subsets:

Rookie cards. This was the class with great rookies such as Kerry Collins, Steve McNair and others.

Now onto the goods, THE INSERTS!

The Ground Zero parallels (the glittery cards) fell at an average of 1:6 packs and the Backfield Stars insert below fell at 1:36 packs so that was a great hit here.

The Rookie Summit pulls I thought were some of the coolest ever and fell at 1:12 packs. The angles the photos were taken and the silver foil in the background made these stand out.

Overall, I was pretty happy with this break. It not only provided a ton of great looking cards, but a lot of memories along the way. I would definitely go back and break another.

Sorting....Accomplished (well most)

Well, at the start of the week, I put up a post where my desk appeared like this:

Now after about a week of sorting, I have narrowed it down to this:

It might have fully caught up if I hadn't run out of page sheets for my binder to put away the last few piles. Gonna have to get some more from BCW to finish this project before more cards arrive.

I was actually quite fast this time with trying to catch up on sorting. But, as all of us collectors know, just because I sorted these and put them away, that doesn't mean they will stay where I put them forever. Cause in this hobby, sorting never ends.

August Contest Week 1

With the lack of entries from the switch of rules for the July Contest, I decided to go back to the original format for the final three months. One other change to note is Jammin JDcards will not be participating in this months contest, instead I have put some prizes in the pot. So here you go!

WELCOME! This is the first week of our August Contest. Now, compared to monthly contests in the past, this one is different. Instead of picking different winners daily, earning points, having the top three in points win prizes you only need to do this one entry where there will be one winner at the end of this week. This contest will run for three weeks and there will be a total of three winners. Once you have won for this month, you cannot win again as we want to spread the prize love around. Also, once you have won for the month, you will go into the WINNERS CIRCLE where you will not only be randomed to pick a prize for the month (all three names will be randomed and the person at the top of the list from the random picks their prize then so on), but will get a guaranteed spot in October's Monthly Contest. That is the ONLY way to be able to enter October's Contest. which has three prizes including a GRAND PRIZE from BCW Supplies.

This months prizes in the Prize Pot are:

Prizes from Sport Card Collectors:

6 Card Michael Jordan collection:

2 Autographed Rookie Cards:
And this from BCW Supplies:

Here is where you can buy bonuses of these items:

Now onto how to be entered this week to be in the WINNERS CIRCLE for this months prizes and the WINNERS CIRCLE to be able to participate in October's Monthly Contest.
  1. Pick the winner of: Toronto at Seattle
  3. As a tiebreaker, the total amount of STRIKEOUT by both STARTING PITCHERS
  4. Any other tiebreaker will be broken up by a random
  5. Another tiebreaker, go to THE CARD BIN and leave a comment on ANY POST. Earn an extra entry if it comes down to being a random for doing so.
  6. Entries are due by Monday Night August 11th by 10:00 pm e.t.
Your entries should look like this
  1. Toronto
  2. 6
  3. 12
Good luck to everyone who enters. There are only two rules, one you must be a U.S. Resident to enter and you must have good clean fun.

PLEASE remember to not only follow BCW Supplies on Facebook and Twitter, please tell them thank you for their generosity and check out their websites for tons of great stuff!

Rueben Randle PC Card Of The Week: 2012 Panini Prizm

This weeks Rueben Randle PC Card Of The Week is a simple one. I have always wanted another company to come out with their own version of Topps Chrome and that's exactly what Panini did. One thing I like about their version more than Topps is the fact these cards don't bend due to the fact the chrome is thicker.

So here is today's Rueben Randle PC Card Of The Week:

What's In The Mail Box?

Stop what you are doing! There is no time for that. You need to check out what arrived in my mail box first!!! Once you see what I got, you will not only be happy that you stopped what you were doing, but you may want to check this post as many times as you can because you won't believe I won this card for FREE in a contest. I know I can't take my eyes off from it.

Every month the people over at Beckett Auctions put up a card you can win. First it was a Michael Jordan auto. Than it was a 1/1 Wayne Gretzky auto that was soon followed up by a Kobe Bryant auto. At first, I gotta admit I was a little hesitant. I mean, who just gives away autos from top stars in the hobby. However, with last weeks announcement that I had won July's contest,  I can now say first hand that they actually do.

July's prize arrived yesterday and inside of the box labeled Beckett Media on the outside of it, I received in this graded LeBron James 2012-2013 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection autograph. It is just simply stunning to say the least.

What at first I thought as crazy, isn't anymore and this month they have a Super Bowl champion's autograph up for grabs in Russell Wilson. By now you are probably saying, ummmm let us in on how to win so we can enter. Well, that's easy. Like Beckett Auctions on Facebook and follow them on Twitter, then you can do any of the following that counts for entries:
  1. Bid on their Auctions (you should at least check out the items. I would be surprised if you couldn't find something that you want. I know I have found plenty) at
  2. SHARE any of their Facebook posts
  3. Re-tweet any of their tweets on Twitter
  4. They will also offer out other chances to gain extra entries such as bidding on an item on a certain day
All I can say to you now is good luck. This is not a joke. They are really giving some incredible prizes away and I would like to thank them again for mine. This is by far the best card in my collection.

LeBron James Is Going Home...With Me!

Earlier this month LeBron James announced that he was going home to Cleveland to play for the Cavaliers. Yesterday, I went to my mail box and found out that he was actually coming home with me instead.

This was probably the biggest mail day I have ever had and now the best card that I own. I won a contest from Beckett Auction and scored this pretty sweet graded 2012-2013 Upper Deck Exquisite LeBron James autograph:

I was overly ecstatic to win such a card. I know a lot of fans, even collectors, lost respect for LeBron when he left Cleveland for Miami but I didn't. Honestly, I guarantee if any of us were put in a situation where we could win NBA titles with our friends, wouldn't we have jumped all over that?

Before his career is done, I expect James to pull home at least another couple titles and maybe break a few more records. However, I don't compare him to Jordan at all. There will never be another Jordan as he was one of a kind. With that being said though, LeBron will make his place in NBA history and will be someone that future players might be compared to. He is also someone I now have an auto card of that will remain in my collection, just like his legacy that will be left in the NBA.

Time To Sort!

All of us collectors know it's time to sort when your desk starts to look like this:

For a collector usually known to keep up with sorting, I have fallen behind the past few months with a busy schedule and trying to give you guys something to read with my three blogs. Not to mention, my sorting is much more indepth than a lot of collectors. I sort base cards by number then into 800ct boxes. Then star players, NY Giants, NY Yankees, rookies, inserts, rookie inserts, all separated by sport, team, etc into binders. Then I have a doubles pile that even gets sorted into giveaways, freebies, etc. It takes a lot of time and is a lot of work to keep my collection somewhat organized.

I plan on tackling this project, some of it dreaded, this week. Hopefully by weeks end I will have an updated picture for you to show you my progress.

Another months contest with The Pack Gambler has ended. Another great turnout as well for some great prizes. Here are those again:
Miller Auto
Posey mini /199
5 - 2014 Topps Chipz
The Pack Gambler is also putting in a 50% off coupon to his store as well.

However, there could only be ONE winner. This weeks winner wasn't hard to choose knowing they were the only one to pick the winner and exact score of the LA/SF game right on and that person is.....Rob Robinson. A big congrats goes out to him! Rob, please contact The Pack Gambler or myself via Twitter or email me at with your address so we can get these cards out to you.

A big thanks goes out to The Pack Gambler again for another great contest! If you haven't checked out their site yet, please do so. Also make sure you are following them on Twitter or have Liked them on Facebook. I think another great Pack Gambler contest is in store for August!

Speaking of August, Week 1 of our August contest starts this week! Stay tuned!

Nice Twitter Contest Mail Day

This shout out is a bit delayed because I already had posts in place for Saturday and Sunday, but there was no way I wasn't going to give a shout out for this great mail day.

Last week, I won a Twitter contest from @RJDUB81 and the prize arrived not much longer after the win.

Now onto the goods!

First off, I had a choice for the main prize which I chose a UFC auto. The key about this particular auto is that its a rookie one which fits perfectly into my rookie card PC.

Secondly, he asked for my PC teams/players and here is what he sent from the NY Giants. Not only are these cards Giants, but they are from my favorite era of collecting, the 90's. There were some sweet additions  in the first part of the Giants part of the prize with LT Playoff insert from 1993, an Ike Hillard 1996 rookie insert, a Tiki Barber rookie card and one from one of my favorite all-time QB's in Kerry Collins. This was just the start.

Next in the prize pack was a rookie card of one of my favorite Giants:

Up next, I saw this card of Hanspard/Barber and immediately fell in love! Really nice layout and it was shiny. My eyes are always drawn to shiny things!

The final two were my favorites of the package, not that they all weren't great, but these two cards were stunning. The first one is this beauty. Great photograph of Rodney Hampton with hologram...DROOOOL! I have also never owned one of these so being my first and a Giant..WOO HOO!

Finally, a 1996 Pacific Collection Litho-Cel of Amani Toomer with both the card and Litho-Cel card. I have never seen one put together up close and now I own one?!?!? Superb! Doesn't get any better than that.

Here is what the Litho-Cell card looks like separate from each other:
A huge thanks goes out to @RJDUB8 again for this mail day. If you have Twitter, I strongly recommend you go give him a follow for hobby talk, giveaways and more!

The Card Bin: What Did I Find This Time?

Yes, it seems redundant that I name this NEW segment the same name as this blog, but this is what I call this bin:

I think most of us collectors have that one place we store all of our extra cards that are not PC related. This is where I stick mine. I also use this as a once-in-awhile dig through to bring back memories or for a just for fun experience. I will start posting cards from this bin to show you what's hiding in there. I honestly have no idea what is in there, I only know its autographs and memorabilia cards from the past 14 years. So this should be fun for both you and I!

Onto today's find:

2009 Upper Deck UD Game Jersey Dan Uggla
Thoughts on today's find are welcomed!

NEW Posts On The Card Bin!

If you haven't checked out my newest blog yet, go check it out! New posts daily on a variety of topics. Today's post will be my first of the new segment, The Card Bin. When I asked both on Twitter and on Facebook if you guys would be into seeing a post about jersey and autographed cards in a bin that I haven't looked at in awhile the main response was YES!

So make sure you check out The Card Bin later this morning for more!
