What's In The Mail Box?

Today was one of those days I knew something special was coming to my mail box so I did what any collector would do, I head to the Post Office as soon as it opened!

Recently on Twitter, I randomly won a contest from Geoff Goebel for helping him reach a milestone in followers. He quickly mailed me the sweet two-card prize pack that would be heading straight to my PC.

And here they are:

Two upcoming stud QB's dual jersey card:

And one SICK, SICK, SICK autograph booklet. This looked even better in person!
I just wanna say thanks again to Geoff for the giveaway! Both cards are absolutely amazing and if anyone hasn't followed him yet, you should!

As always, thoughts on my mail day are welcomed!

Retail Break 'Em: 2014 Sage Hit High Series Blaster

In my search of multiple cards of many of the 2014 rookie class, my search could only afford retail and one of the better buys that I had with 2014 retail football was Sage Hit. If you ever wondered the difference between the Low and High series it's all about the players. Different players, especially in the autograph department, are offered for each series and you may find some of the same for the base cards.

In a Sage Hit High Series 2014 blaster, for $20 you get THREE AUTOGRAPHS, 18 packs and you get a ton of cards. That's a steal in my mind. I busted a Low Series blaster not long ago that came with a punch....a Clowney auto! Will the high series be as exciting? Let's see!

Base cards:

I really like the design of this subset. Jumps out at you and catches your attention!

Now onto the autographs:

159 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars pick:

And a rookie Free Agent auto rumored to have tried out with Washington:

And in the sixth round the Bears drafted this guy..also must note it's a hand numbered gold parallel and hopefully the next Tom Brady...
Overall, not a bad break and still provided okay value, just not as much as the first blaster. I think it's definitely something I would go back and buy again because come on, what other retail product for $20 offers THREE AUTOGRAPHS and you just never know which autograph could come from within.

Review: 2014 Press Pass American Thunder

American Thunder is a NEW NASCAR product from Press Pass and just like all of their NASCAR products, this one is just as impressive and hopefully will stay apart of the yearly product go around.

Now onto the review:

  • 20 Packs Per Box, 5 Cards Per Pack
  • One Autograph and Two Memorabilia Cards Per Box
  • One Parallel numbered to 50 or less Per Box
PRICE: You can find most boxes under $90

BASE CARDS: I really like the base cards in American Thunder. The player pose such as Kenseth's above I think is the best way to go in a NASCAR product. I am usually one for action shots but with this sport, it's best to see the drivers. They also included all 8 rookies in this product including the red hot rookie I Pulled above of Kyle Larson.

The subset card of Brother's In Arms that features all of the drivers from a team going into "battle" to win a championship is a cool concept and the design with the American flag in the background looks tremendous.

I also liked that Press Pass gave a shout out to the truck drivers who bring the cars to the race on a weekly basis in the Convoy subset and the layout design of that one is top notch.

INSERTS: In a box of American Thunder, you get a handful of inserts with one parallel guaranteed to be numbered to 50 or less. I think the parallels look nice and I am glad that Press Pass stuck to what they do best with their inserts and make them foil board.

Some of the fun inserts include Richard Petty "50th Anniversary of First Daytona 500 Win"and the 2014 NASCAR Hall of Fame Class Insert!

AUTOGRAPHED CARDS: Pretty decent low numbered hit here. The design is simple and is well balanced. However, I was surprised to see sticker inserts when Press Pass is normally known for their "on card" marketing for their products. However, still a nice looking card as on-card or not doesn't bother me.

Along with American Thunder autos, you can also find Brothers In Arms Autographs with Teammate Autograph Cards 3 & 4 Driver Teams are double sided and Richard Petty's 50th Anniversary of First Daytona 500 Win Autos

MEMORABILIA CARDS:  .Just stunning. The layout, design and driver combinations are top notch. The fun of NASCAR cards along with designs are the colorful pieces you can get from the many choices of memorabilia. Press Pass knows exactly how to use those pieces and turn them into a beautiful work of art!

The only problem I had here was the fact that a triple memorabilia card has the same exact numbering as a two piece. I think the double should stay at 50 however a triple should be numbered to 25 and not be the same. Something for Press Pass to think about in the future.

Along with the Brothers In Arms memorabilia, you can also find, Battle Armor that has Race-Used Sheet Metal, Class Uniform that contains a sweet 1 of 1 American Flag Firesuit Patched, a Great American Treads with Race-Used Daytona 500 Tires and finally Class A Uniform: Race-Used & Driver-Worn Memorabilia.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:  Another solid NASCAR release from Press Pass that should have card collecting fans from any sport excited. The price point and what I got in this particular box may be a little uneven, but overall there are many big hits to find so not all boxes will be like this one.

Retail Break Em: 2014 Topps Gypsy Queen Blaster Break

Recently I made a trade with Jonathan Hoffman, you can see the article about that trade HERE, and as part of the trade i acquired a blaster box of Gypsy Queen baseball 2014. I had requested this box in return as I really wanted a TRUE rookie card of White Sox phenomenon Jose Abreu.

Though I didn't find him in this break, I still thought it was a decent break. Just check it out:

Yankees PC card:

He is going to make an impact on the Red Sox. Best rookie I got from the box:

Mathews numbered to 499:

Numbered to 199

Numbered to 99:
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of numbered cards in the blaster in getting three of them. Normally when I have bought this product in retail in the past I usually got the same 'ole base cards. I felt this years provided a ton more value and more excitement. I would probably go back for more especially since my box lacked Abreu :)

Retail Break Em: 2014 Upper Deck Football Blaster Box

Recently I made a trade with Jonathan Hoffman, you can see the article about that trade HERE, and as part of the trade i acquired a blaster box of 2014 Upper Deck football as I was trying to continue to load up on my rookie cards early on and possibly, though I think he won't pan out in the NFL, get a UD card of Johnny Manziel. Even though once again I failed to get his card, 2 rack packs and a blaster later, I felt there was plenty of value in this blaster box.

Check it out:

Seems these guys fall in every UD product I buy...not that I care...these guys are going to be stars!

Pulled a nice high numbered Sp, wished it was a better player, but I will take it!

You find Bo in Blaster boxes!

You either can get a 5 card Johnny Manziel card pack (I am thinking Target must be exclusive to those) or a 5 card Rookie Exclusive pack (which must be a Walmart one) that includes top rookies:

Overall, between pulling the tough Sp, the Rookie Exclusive cards and plenty of power player rookies in this blaster, I felt money (well trade money) well spent. More than likely, I would give this another shot.
