Forgotten: 1996 Topps Gilt Edge Football

Here is our NEW segment on Sport Card Collectors. This segment is not about the players per say, its more about the cards and design. We will focus our efforts on bringing you brands you may have forgotten about over time. Sports for these products will include basketball, football and baseball products.

A one hit wonder is what I would call Topps Gilt Edge. A product I busted some of back in 1996 and a product that consisted of only players from that year’s Pro Bowl. The product was one that included Topps new technology at that time called Gilt Edge. Where they place gold foil around the edges of the card hence its product name. The product also featured two different background designs. One with the fiery flames above, the other with an ocean/waterfall type background both with the "funky man" head as well.

Today, you can find most boxes for about $25-$50 with 20 packs and 9 cards per pack. Each pack also contained a Gilt Edge Platinum parallel.

Let us know your thoughts on our NEW segment and if you remember busting Topps Gilt Edge back in the day.

  1. That is one I totally forgot about. It was entertaining when opening a pack or two but I remember being bored with it. Cool stuff to look back on though!
